It's a really good app Poke. The app will show you property boundaries and owners which is great if you chase waterfowl. Works good for your treestand placements as well.
I have it and love it. If you are worried about your information you shouldn't be on the Internet or have a smartphone.....just saying.
Always good question to ask. Is it public or private, etc. I don't have those answers as I don't use the app. I have heard good things about it from other hunters. Might have to download it.
That's a lot of votes for awesome. Anyone want to explain what's so good about it? I like onX Hunt for the offline aerial photos and topo that u download and use offline with your phone's gps. Basically turns ur phone into a gps device so I don't have to buy one!
It's like OnX but it's free. You don't get owners names but you can add waypoints and get wind direction and moon phases. You can also see property lines. Honestly for a free app there is NOTHING better out there.
I have both Hunt Stand and OnX, paid version for WI. I prefer Hunt Stand for use on my hunting land as it is a little easier to use (add Waypoints, etc) and the map detail is much better than the OnX. OnX is top notch for some of the features it has and I use it a lot for Off-Roading with my Jeep and marking trails I like. When it comes to hunting though, I'll take the Hunt Stand app.
I use Hunt Stand and Scout Look. Probably a toss up. Both have pros-cons. I also use Quiver for simple tracking of sightings and notes. That one is nifty too. Tracks sightings wind, temperature start-stop of hunt. Very simple but useful. I have found both Hunt Stand Scout Look conceptually are good but wonder some times whether it is hunters that design or own the IP. There are simple issues with them that tells me the developers aren't hunters. For example, on Scout Look they have a log to track your buck-doe ratio. Very cool right. But then your options are Buck, Doe, Fawn, Group of bucks, group of does. Well on my land I have an occasional group of bucks (normally 3 at the most) versus a Group of does (10 or more). When you run the ratio it is 1-1. You can't enter a number in. So, my ratio shows 7:3 but in reality it is worse because the group of does doesn't show me the number. On Hunt Stand I don't have the same user convenience on the weather. Scout Look is better. Hunt stand also has some cool features but it is not an intuitive technology. Meaning, I seem to mess with it in the stand frequently to remember or relearn how to use it. I could only pick one it would probably be Scout Look.
