Does anyone know what is wrong with this buck and his likelihood of surviving? I am trying to figure out if the ethical thing would be to put him down (once season starts of course) if I get a chance to. Thoughts? Feel bad for the guy, even though he might be able to brag a bit about his manhood...
He's got a tumor or an abscess from an injury it looks like. That would be horrible. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Poor guy. Hard to say what the issue is for sure and a hard call what to do with him if anything. I doubt it's anything contagious so I'd tend to just let nature take it's course and let God sort it out.
He looks healthy otherwise. I saw a mule deer doe that looked something like that (not that big) hanging around a golf course. I talked to the marshal at the golf course. A few weeks later I asked about her. They said animal control came and put her down. Tumors and in her mammories ( milk glands). They said they would rupture eventually. It's an urban area no hunting ect... so she would have suffered. In your case if you get a chance pop him. Maybe even get to do it without using your tag if you contact the local game warden 1st with your trail cam footage. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
He looks healthy but if it still existed once season rolls around don't see why not. He doesn't appear to be in any pain at the moment so no need to put him out of his misery so to speak.
My dad wouldn't hesitate in or out of season to put an animal in distress down. Then again he is a long standing property owner in a rural area and knows the local warden on a personal basis. Put the animal down and call the warden. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
My son once killed a buck exactly like that. I wanted to see what caused it. When we gutted him I discovered his bowel herniated into his sack. The buck didn't seem to be bothered by it.
That looks like elephantiasis of the nads. That can't be comfortable for him, he needs to be put down.
If you decide to follow this advise please call him for bail money. First call the warden then follow his instructions otherwise let nature takes it's course.
You are right dyslexic typing. Call the game warden explain situation and follow his instruction. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
My brother shot a buck like that in '06. The buck's intestines had herniated into his scrotum. We called him Bison Balls.
Haha, sounds like my father-in-law's advice - act now and ask forgiveness later. Unfortunately this hasn't worked well for me in life. I think that calling the warden first would certainly be a better option. I will do that and see what he says. Either way, he might not be too bad of a buck to take with one of the two bucks we get to take yearly in GA.
Wow, I would not have even questioned taking this deer! Mine seems like he is only two years old, which is why I am wondering if I should take him or not (assuming I get the chance). One question though, if this is Bison Balls, what should I call my buck?
