We have, for lack of a better term - TONS of hummingbirds. I think they are kickass little things, anyone else feed them? They go through two feeders per day! Insane, but pretty cool to watch.
We have a lot of flowers that the hummingbirds come to. I am kind of surprised you see tons in that hummingbirds are extremely territorial and will attack others that encroach on their territory. We have a nesting pair that we see a lot of and then there is the occasional "outsider" that invariably gets attacked by the male. They are cool to watch though.
Yeah - they are always flying around and darting at each other! 10 at one time is the most I've seen. @Florida - Weird. I'm not sure if there is more that can be done? We just put the feed out and they arrive. Good luck!
usually we have 5-10 appear in a day's time... not sure if it's this year's crazy weather patterns around here in the Midwest or what, but I've only seen one all year long so far.
You guys obviously dont know much about hummingbirds. This is how you do it. Its when the raccoon latches onto your face that it gets a little scary but you must hold your ground or else you'll scare the birds away.
We feed ours. There is always one that will dominate the feeder. Below is a photo of one my wife took last year.
my grandmother liked them a lot. I never really cared for them but now that grandma is gone so are the humming birds. haven't seen one in 10 years or so.
We have a few zipping around here, but we certainly don't go through as much juice as you! Cool little critters. Do you guys get hummingbird moths as well? we have a few of those show up each year. Took me forever to figure out what the heck they were.
That's the problem here too. We had 3 feeders on the front porch and 99% of the traffic was wasps and bees. The wife started planting flowers that attract hummingbirds and we get the birds now and then.
Ok, ... some hummingbird trivia. Did you know that hummingbirds can't walk? Without googling.... do you know why?
No ONE has an answer or a try?????? That's amazing. The answer is.... they do NOT have ankles. They're the only member of the bird family without ankles. Go figure.
I would have missed it David... I was thinking something about weight to strength ratio or something... Cool fact.
