The guy apparently had already filled his buck tag and used his one and only tag. This thing came along and he shot it and he got caught. Man I bet he wished he wouldn't of shot the first deer. He obviously broke the law but it was taken with legal equipment and during legal hours. OUCH! http://www.startribune.com/local/69...yaiUgOahccyiUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aULPQL7PQLanchO7DiUs
Wow, that is a damn shame. That is a MONSTER 8 point... really sad to see what antlers will do to guys, but from the sounds of his background... poaching was nothing!
(WCCO)Some hunters think a deer shot near Cannon Falls could be the biggest eight-point buck in the world. However, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is now investigating it as possible case of poaching. Message boards were lit up as soon as the picture of the deer was posted online. A man who showed up at the taxidermist took the picture and put it online for all to see. The 32-inch beam, 27-inch spread, classic 8-point buck weighed 269 pounds. The DNR wants to know if the buck was taken illegally. It may have been shot with a rifle in bow season. The DNR has not said anything more about the case just yet. However, Conservation Officer Pat McGowan said when someone shoots out of season it becomes a matter of safety. "When people are using rifles or shotguns it can pose a problem not just for hunters but for general public as well," he said. As more and more hunters post pictures online, it's turned into a tool for officers to investigate what's could be going on in the woods, fields and water in Minnesota. The taxidermist said the buck was killed on Halloween and brought in a few days later and he thought there were arrow marks on the skin. No matter what may have happened to the trophy buck, the DNR says bottom line poaching takes away from hunters who do it the right way and follow the rules. "We have a lot of rules that are there for deer hunting but they are there for a purpose we need people to follow those rules," Officer McGowan said. The Goodhue County Attorney could file charges in the case this week. Depending on the circumstances, poachers can lose their hunting licenses for a few years and pay fines. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By Chris Niskanen [email protected] Updated: 11/12/2009 12:06:18 PM CST A Goodhue County man with a criminal history has been charged with poaching a white-tailed buck believed to have the largest set of eight-point antlers ever measured. Troy Alan Reinke, 32, of Cannon Falls was charged this morning in Goodhue County with 13 counts of illegal taking deer. If convicted, he faces $19,000 in fines, up to a year in jail and revocation of his hunting license. Reinke allegedly shot the world-class deer with a bow and arrow on Halloween while hunting on private property. According to court records, Reinke admitted to shooting three deer in October, including the trophy 8-pointer. He allegedly shot the trophy eight-pointer after shooting another eight-pointer earlier in the month. Pictures of the trophy buck have circulated widely on the Internet. While official record keeping organizations such as the Pope and Young Club and Boone & Crockett Cub do not officially recognize world-records for eight-point deer, Department of Natural Resources officials believe the deer possesses the largest set of eight-point antlers ever measured for a whitetail. The DNR has confiscated the deer and antlers as evidence. The agency had them officially scored this week. The gross score was 190 5/8 inches on the Boone & Crockett scale, with a net score of 185 inches. DNR officials say the biggest eight-pointer ever shot was a Michigan deer with a score of 180. Reinke was charged with two counts of taking deer without a license; two charges of taking deer over the legal limit; two charges for possessing an untagged big-game animal; two charges of failure to register a deer; two charges of failure to validate a deer license; one charge of gross overlimit of wild animals; and two charges of transporting an illegal big-game animal. Reinke has previous convictions for domestic assault, theft and fishing with too many fishing lines. According to court records, he served 120 days in jail recently for his second domestic assault charge ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RED WING- A bow-and-arrow hunter is accused of illegally shooting a trophy white-tailed buck and two additional deer in Goodhue County. 32 year old Troy Alan Reinke of Cannon Falls was charged Thursday with 13 counts of illegally taking a deer. Court records say Reinke shot the deer on Halloween while hunting on private land. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources believes the buck has the largest set of eight-point antlers ever measured. The DNR investigation stems from an incident where three deer, including a trophy 8-point buck were killed by archery in three separate incidents near Cannon Falls in October. According to the complaint Reinke admitted to conservation officers that he had shot a small doe and a small buck on separate dates in early October, and failed to tag or register either of the deer. Reinke said he shot the large 8-point buck, with a 185 green score, on Halloween evening. A green score is an unofficial score to rate deer antlers (inches of length). Conservation officers seized a bow, two deer racks, the meat from the three deer, and the hide from the large buck as part of their investigation. Restitution for the small buck and doe is $500 each. Restitution for the trophy buck is $1,000. Reinke also faces other court costs and penalties that could add up to a year in jail, $19,000 in fines and revocation of his hunting license for 3 years. Damn Shame Lots of discussion, here: http://www.fishingminnesota.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2062739/1
So he loses his hunting privledges for 3 years? What does he care, he doesn't hunt legally anyway so no affect on him there.
wow what a buck. it's a shame that there's always some ****** breaking the rules and cheating. in the stand or whatever, with no license, whether he used a bow or rifle makes no difference. take all his weapons away and fine the hell out of him. 3 years no hunting is a joke, like stated above, he's already hunting illegally i doubt he'll stop.
thats unbelievable i hate poachers i caught a guy last year at night on my cousins property they shot a deer i was hunting a main frame 10 with a unicorn point about 4 inches long straight out the skull the deer was roughly a 153 incher
That is a darn shame. Really hope he finds himself in jail for several years. That would keep him from hunting.
Yup, just noticed that. I think the one I posted was one of his other poached bucks?? The whole thing is confusing...a lof of dif different stories floating around about the whole situation around my parts!
With his record and allegedly just serving a 120 days for a 2nd DV case he should get jail time, especially if he was on probation. Sounds like he is a real dirtbag.
THIS STORY IS SO WRONG ON MANY LEVELS! First of all, a beautiful deer was POACHED! A POACHER IS BEING CALLED A HUNTER! WRONG! Is a bank robber a bank depositer? Why can't the story writters do better to classify the good guys from the bad guys. That's their job! I sent Mr. Anderson an email...letting him know he did hunters a real disservice! He was truned in by "other" hunters...Wrong, he was turned in by hunters, period! Hunters are law abiding. The penalty is too light. This guy should never see daylight, IMO!
Don't you think that's a bit extreme? It's not like he killed a child! And yes, that buck is UNREAL!!!
