I'm new to the forums this is my first post but I was wondering what you guys think is the better bow for hunting out west. I shoot a Bear Crux right now and am looking too upgrade sometime in the next couple months. Any feedback would be appreciated. I just shot my first Mathews yesterday and man was it nice. Both bows will be fine for hunting anywhere. Shoot both a buy which one feels better to you. there is more to accuracy than just a bow. shoot a few bows see what feels good then get a good setup for the bow. good sight, rest, stabilizer, arrows all will help make any bow shoot better
The Mathews I shot yesterday was a 5 year old model I couldn't believe how nice it shot Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Gunnin54. Accuracy has a lot to do with repeatability. Find a bow that feels good, fits you and is within your price range. Shoot a few and see which ones feels better to you. Some bows are easier to tune but once you have any bow tuned it should shoot well for your. You are the key to how accurate it can be. The better the bow fits you the higher then chances you will be more accurate with it. The reality is only you can pick the bow that fits you best. Probably doesn't help but have fun shooting them and looking for the one you like.
The Mathews I shot yesterday felt really nice. I want a longer bow. My Bear is 29.25" and I want something a little bigger than that. I don't know what the Defiants come in at though Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
That I can help with. The Defiant Pro comes in a 30.5 inch model and 34 inch model. The 34" model has an axel to axel measurement of 34". Generally the longer the axel to axel the easier it is to shoot accurately. the 30 " has an ATA rating of 331 feet per second while the 34 is 325 fps. On top of that they say with the DFX cam it makes it seem longer. They both have a 7 inch brace height. In theory the Defiant Pro 34 would be more accurate but once again its up to how it is tuned and who is shooting it. So definitely go shoot them both and see which one you like. Might also want to try prime, elite and Obsession. The bows are not cheap any more so want to make sure you pick the one thats right for you. Any more questions?
Gunnin54, welcome to the site! This is a great place for information. What made you decide between the Defiant and the Halon?
No I don't thanks for answering my questions man. Just curious what do you shoot? Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Well I shot a older model Mathews yesterday and the draw and everything was really smooth. Hoyt from what what I heard is the best so that's why I went with this 2. Any other brands I should be looking at? Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Right now a Halon 32 6 but before that was a Obsession Def-Con 6. I made a commitment to a dealer that I would purchase a bow from him this year. At the present he only carries Mathews and Mission. He is a great guy and a small shop and I wanted to stuck to my word... sooo.
Nice. Now I may throw another bow in the mix. A Prime Centergy Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Definitely shoot that bow. I have not shot it yet but it does intrigue me a bit. SO I want too. At this point I am afraid too
If I find a dealer here in CA I'll let you know how it shoots Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I personally prefer the Halon 6 to the 32 - but the 32 is nice too... When I shoot the Defiant's - more so than in previous years - there is a huge difference in the Carbon vs. Aluminum versions.... I love the carbon defiant but don't really care for the aluminum version...
As everyone has said, get out there and shoot a bunch. The two that you mentioned, for me would have to be considered, "the lesser of two evils" as neither of them fit me well. Not to say that they aren't good bows, just not for me. I like the feel of a smaller grip like those found on the Xpedition, Obsession and Elite type bows. Until you shoot them, you'll never know.
