Does anyone know if changing cams on a Hoyt will affect the bow at all? I have a Pro Defiant with a 2.1 cam and I need a 3 cam and my dealer is saying it will but I’ve had other dealers say it won’t.

    Thank you

Of course it will affect it, it’s a different cam. If it acted exactly the same way as the cam it was replacing it would be pointless.

I assume your replacing to increase draw length?

Pretty sure the cables and string will need changing too.

I think your best bet is to switch your cams over to Mathews....but for best results you should also change the strings, cables, limbs, riser and frame to Mathews .......but you can swap over your peep to save money

Yeah, you'll have to change strings. Different lengths.

I am not a Hoyt fan so I don't know specifically about your bow, but generally if it is a module, no... change out the module and the draw length changes but nothing else. If the cam is draw length specific, then yes, string length generally changes. Best advise is to contact Hoyt and talk with them about your specific bow and they can tell you for sure.

    He’s changing cams, not modules.

If a dealer is saying it won't and they are a Hoyt dealer I would find another dealer. Since you are moving from one cam to another that requires a new string and cables so that means setting up the peep and nocking points on the string. Your rest should be ok left to right in that case but its not guranteed. There will more than likely be some up/down adjustments needed but you could get lucky.

You should be able to call hoyt with the limb deflection numbers and they can tell you what poundage the bow will be with the new cams. Aside from that you will need a new bowstring and cables since the lengths will change.
