I was wondering how the new hoyt alphamax performs. I am very interested in this bow and probably would own it already if I wasn't a poor college student, even though I really do not need it because I got a 2008 hoyt vectrix plus.
It shoots great, very smooth draw. I've shot it in a pro shop. I've also not heard or read any complaints about it.
I have the Hoyt Alphamax 35 and love it. I had the Katera before, which was a little faster...but not so much you'd really notice. Alphamax is smooth, light, and good lookin'.
I just switched to the alphamax about a month ago. I had been shooting the katera and had no complaints about it. The alphamax fits better in the hand, weighs about a half pound less and shoots very quiet with a super light arrow. My katera at 27.5" draw shot 292 fps. My alphamax at 27.5" draw shoots 306 fps(by no means is it a faster rated bow i am shooting a lighter arrow). I have purchased a new bow at least every other year since 1991 and I can say this is the happiest i have ever been with a new bow!!!
Don't take this the wrong way... but the alphamax is light years ahead of the trykon. I had a trykon and really actually like it, even though there were lots people that said it was a tuning nightmare. You should check it out!
first hoyt i actually liked shooting... I tried a katera and a vectrix and they were OK to me, but didn't realy trip my trigger, the a-max on the other hand is a really nice rig, if I had the coin it would be real high on my list
I own both!! My AM32 is the sweetest shooting most durable bow I have ever shot and I have shot most brands! The bow shoots much better than I can. Like Dubbya said there really is no comparison between the two bows. I use my Trykon Xt as my backup bow. I have had no problems tuning it either. It is heavier than my AM32 but still balances pretty good in hand.
I've been away from bow hunting for a few, well actually several years, I stopped by a local shop to see what was new.. ended up ordering the Hoyt Superhawk. Members of other forums say this a similar to the AM32s but with a cast as opposed to the machined Riser. I did try several other bows from Mission, Matthews and PSE in a similar price range but to me the Hoyt felt much smoother drawing with not as much movement at the release. It is a little heavier than the AM32 but not really an issue.
Am32 I have had mine since January, and would not have any other bow. I tried Bowtech and the Drenalin from Matthews, but here is not a bow out there that draws as smoothly as the AlphaMax, and it was a pleasure and very easy to tune.
