Howdy everybody. Anyone besides me excited that bow season for white tails is finally open? At least in Missouri anyway
welcome, I'll be out in Arbella (north east MO) for the last week of Oct. think the big boys will be on their feet yet? you guys have any idea what I should expect for weather? thanks and welcome!
Yep but they're just going to be getting started. Best week imo is nov5 - nov12. Gun season starts between nov12 - 15. So the week before gun season starts. Northern Missouri offers the best deer hunting in the state. Just outside of Kirksville, Mo. is thousand acre Big Creek State Forest. It butts up right to Thousand Hill State Park. One side of the barb wire fence is state park, can't hunt in state parks unless its a managed hunt. The outer side of the wire is the state forest where you can hunt. The park acts as an incubator to grow large deer who hop over the fence. Some years the conservation dept grows corn, or milo to attract the deer into the state forest. Cheaper than running a managed hunt over in Thousand Hills. I don't know what tags cost for you. But this is public ground so it won't cost you a dime to hunt there. Thousand Hills has brick duplex style cabins with kitchens that sit on a lake that has a marina. Great place to say. Within 20 miles of Kirksville there's also Sugar Creek State Forest 5000 acres, and Union Ridge State Forest 10,000 acres. Weather wise hard to say. Typically warm 50 to 70 degrees, chance of rain. It won't be cold. If we're lucky this year the temps will be between 40 and 60. Good luck with your hunt hope you tag a monster.
Cedar Hill. You're out west bro. I've never hunted out that way. You hunting private or public land and what's it like out that way? I hunt north of the Missouri River. I hunted south too, in the early years, Huzzah, Devils Elbow. Went up north and I was hooked. Good luck tag a big one.
We have a few acres that buts up against Corp property. Truman lake has thousands of acres of public hunting, but gets pretty busy opening day of gun season. Archery season is not bad though. Lots of deer, but lots of places to hide. Good luck!
from High Ridge originally welcome to the board. i always hunted down southern MO, mostly around Ft Leonard Wood at a relative's farm.
also new from southeast missouri. hunting is spotty here but we are lucky to have access to crowleys ridge and the st. francis river. been in the stand a few times already with this cooler weather.
thanks a lot west, lots of good info there, we're hunting with an outfitter so we are paying a little bit, not too bad compared to the Saskatchewan rifle hunts im used to. We're driving out thought so I'm trying to convince my dad to stay an extra week and hit some public land either in Northern MO or in Ohio on the way back. thanks again, good luck bud. Kyle
