I've started.... running! Last July my wife the the owners of the resort ran Ely's '4 on the 4th'. When they got there they saw 5 of our guests running. They all started talking and it has snowballed into a thing. We're making "Team Northernair" shirts and there's a big group running it this 4th. For some reason last summer I agreed to run. Now that we're under a month out, I decided I'd better start running The pain will be over in 20 days. I've run twice now (couple miles) averaging a 7:20-7:40 pace. I'd love to get that down to 7 flat. My goal is a 28min 4 mile, but anything under 30 I'd be happy with. .... never thought I'd be running again.
You'll have fun, Fitz. Participating in the events is fun. I really wish I could run more, but I borderline hate it because of the pain. Running short distances (5k) with my daughter is one of my favorite things to do.
The older i get, the more I have to do to keep in shape, the more it hurts lol. Good luck with it. I started running stairs again at our high school stadium. I used to do countless laps of them back in the day. I got up and down about 4 aisles and started looking how far I had to go to get to the other side for round one! One of these days I'm just going to pack it in, drink beer, eat what I want and say the hell with it.
LMAO NYB!!! Love It!! Yeah Fitz I've backed off since that 4k I did back In May. I've gotten super busy with work and just haven't found the extra time to keep running. I was planning on doing 2 miles a day Instead of the 1.2 miles I was doing. I even went out and bought 2 new pair's of shoes. I was excited to keep doing this and was looking forward to bettering my time the next 4k race. I too wanted to drop my time and get better. I'd love nothing more then to to do It 30 minutes. I know It's very doable but I need to just do It and get my *** out running again. Maybe this post of yours and me writing this will motivate my *** to do It. The other problem Is I just bought that new boat and I've been using that with my little free time I have. Too many damn coals In the fire. Still though I can make time. Best of luck with this fitz. Good for you In doing this!!
More power to you, Fitz! I just never could get into running, even when I was a kid, I just hated it. I think it had a lot to do with always playing basketball and my body, legs, and lungs being accustomed to that type of cardio. I get bored so easily when I try to run anything close to a mile. I'd much rather lace up the Nike's and get a good basketball workout in than run for any lengthy distance.
Thanks guys! It's been a solid 11 or so years since I've run. Ran CC in HS and ran a bit in college to stay in shape. Then I discovered the World Beer Tour at Old Chicago no more running for me... I post up how things turn out. I really want to beat my boss
I prefer long brisk hikes with a backpack on for training, since that is what deer season is going to require of me anyway, whether I am carrying a backpack or dragging a buck. I will jog in the evenings, sometimes, a slow recon shuffle, along the nearby levee that channels the creek which leads into the San Francisco Bay. It has wildlife of its own, and is very scenic, a taste of mother nature in the midst of the cityscape. I have seen foxes, owls and hawks there while I jog. Then I wish I had my binos with me so I could check them out. Getting back into shape is a good thing prior to deer season. It is also an annual ritual. Drinking beers after the hike or jog helps with the soreness and pain afterwards. Boilermakers work even better than just plain beer. Cheers!
Well, the race is right around the corner. My first few run paces were off, due to distance errors, but things have been going well. I have a 3.8 mile loop I can run right fron the lodge. Two days ago I ran it with a 7:04 pace ... but I may have tweaked my knee a bit It was sore today when my buddy & I ran the actuall course. Ran a 29:20, so I'm right there. If I hadn't been nursing my knee for the first two miles I think it would have gone way better. I'm taking tomorrow and maybe monday off, with a light run/jog on tuesday. Then the Race is at 8am Weds. I'm excited, and looking forward to geting it over with!
Don't have the official results yet, but I was right around 28:40. I'll take it with the hot weather and my knee!
