the red line marks a dry Creek bed. Green marks the commonly used deer trails, and the blue spot marks a confirmed bedding area. Last night I sat south of the bedding area, in the trees on the south side of the trail. I saw 5 or 6 yearling bucks across the river, heard some cross the river, and heard some mature bucks rubbing and stomping around in the trees, but nothing came out. Any suggestions on where to setup next time I go out?
I guess without being on the ground and looking I would hunt the trail intersections During rut I would try and hunt somewhere along the river bank What is the area that the southern deer trail goes into? Marsh? Where are the food sources?
check out closer to where you thought you heard mature bucks racking around or where you seen them crossing the river. like cached said be tough not walking the grounds and seeing first hand but anywhere on that inlet of trees seems like you could find some luck in there. best of luck.
Might think about trying to get in fairly close East or NorthEast of the bedding by taking a canoe or Kayak up or down the river.
I'm real big on coyote and bobcat hunting. For my setup, I would be in the woods near the river. I'd mount some Outrigger Outdoors Red Eye lights on trees nearby, set up my caller in the middle and use the remote to control the light. I'd put the light on red, dim it down until I get some activity in the area and the once I have a bobcat or coyote coming in, I'd brighten the lights up and prepare for the shot. This is the setup I have on my place and it works like a charm. Similar terrain to what you have here. Those Outrigger Outdoors Red Eye lights are awesome and make bowhunting predators at night much easier. I give them my recommendation, if you wanna try some out here's their website: https://outriggeroutdoors.com/products/red-eye-100-watt-remote-controlled-led
