I'm a little bummed today. I had today off and was planning on bowhunting this morning but with the forecast of rain and wind I hunted ducks this morning. I didn't realize the wind was supposed to pick up this afternoon. its blowing 30+ and could gust to 60. Its a good wind for the stand I wanted to hunt but am I just wasting my time? Will the whitetails even be active in this? I suppose I don't have anything to loose, by trying but I am feeling discouraged.
With that much wind and rain it means it's time to do a little stalking through the woods. The deer can't hear you coming and if you go against the wind they won't smell ya either. That's how i shot my buck yesterday! lol
I think it has a little to do with where you are...30 mph wind in central NY make keep them bed down, but in Kansas, its just another day!..like said, good time for stalking/still hunting... especially in the corn!
Deer pretty much hunker down after 20+ mph wind for the most part. I still hunt but do a lot of scouting.
Today was too windy but I went anyway. Didn't see a whole lot but it was still better than being @ work or sitting @ home. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well the gusts were interesting, had to push 50+ a couple times. I had a little 4 pt come in about 15 minutes before sunset. Took some pictures and video of him. Its been all bucks since I filled my buck tag. I'm not complaining though, I think its neat as hell just seeing how close they get.
One year during the beginning of November my pops went out archery hunting. It was incredibly windy, like 25 mph with gusts up to 40. He crawled up his favorite stand and didn't feel comfortable, so he crawled back down. He ended up sitting right at the base of the tree that night and arrowed a 150 inch buck. I guess when the deer are rutting, it is worth being out there.
