So this year I am going to start using minerals. Already am sold on Monster Raxx. Very excited to see the results. I will have 3 sites on my 120 acres. I've heard some people try to keep them near water holes/sources but not sure if that's the only place people put them. What do you look for when setting up a mineral site? I hope Tom finds his way to this thread but I want info from anyone who uses minerals, not just Tom. So please, help me out here fellers and lady foke...

Well I'm placing mine in a pine thicket, lots of cover, trails an sign galore and water within 100yards. There's all sorts of places to put em just use your judgment to figure out where the deer are. They'll find it I'm sure

I have talked a bit with Tom about Monster Raxx. I can see why people like it. Works good and comes from a good source. I always think one is best using a good attractant formula (to pull deer in) and considering the minerals and nutrients a bonus.

For placement, I always say to try to stay near, but a bit off of good trails. You never know what changing the environment on a big trail will do, could chase off that big buck. They will find a good attractant even a bit aways. I have had good luck with mineral sites along bedding to food plot travel routes, especially near water. My latest one is in a marshy bedding area on a knob of high ground about 1/3 acre in size. They travel near it, then cross a creek up into some higher woods on a way to corn. I also am planning a feed plot, maybe 1/4 acre kill plot, in the area. Somewhere to loaf near cover while waiting for dark to head out in the corn field.
