I work with many people who know I hunt, and have asked me to kill the deer that have destroyed their flowers. Trouble is they all live in neighborhoods in the city limits. I know other states have urban hunts and was wondering if anyone knew the steps to take to try and get an urban hunt approved by the city?

I don't know for sure, but I would imagine you'd have to show up at some city hall meetings and bring it up. A petition of citizens would probably be helpful, also. Contact your city manager or mayor and ask what you can do.

Are you already sure you cant bow hunt where you want to? There might not be anything on the books making it illegal to bow hunt.

Where in N AL are you? I'm in Huntsville. I know for us it is legal to shoot bows inside the city limits. I have never found anything that says you can or cant shoot a deer though. The way i look at it is if it is perfectly legal to shoot my bow where i please and deer season applies to the whole county then there shouldn't be a problem. I don't have any deer roaming my back yard but with the arsenal in town and then the couple "mountains" i know of a lot of people who do. even said they have seen some really nice bucks.

I would look into that as well. I know that Bloomington, IN has an urban deer task force that is dragging their feet when it comes to deciding what their plan of action will be. I was reading through the documents and realized that you can bow hunt in the city as long as you have permission. The big issue I see is tracking a deer on some of the smaller parcels.

Go talk to the Police Chief or bring it up at a council meeting.

I went to my city council meeting and asked about something similar, they just laughed under their breath and said no hunting whatsoever. I live in snobville!

    Good Luck

Find out first if there is any laws or ordinances that prohibit it, or make it impractical. Then if not...just hunt and see what happens.

Called the majors office today. They said with written permission from a land owner it is legal to bow hunt. Just stay off the state park or others private property. Looks like I'm going hunting!

Good luck but be careful. I cannot stress enough to make sure & make an accurate & ethical shot. All it takes is a dead deer under some kids swingset & it's "game over".
