II know the fact that the rut is ramping up, his pattern will change. But, I have some excellent sign of his bedding area on my property. In fact I have a stand less than 40 yards from these rubs. The stand is right on the edge of a very thick spot, and I never hunt this stand. I hung it last year, and only hunted it once. Access it pretty rough, as I have to cross my creek, which is a pretty big ditch, about 15' tall banks. There's a couple places I can get across though, just not where I want to cross. I feel like I can only hunt this stand in the AM's as I'm sure to bump bedded deer if I try to hunt it in the afternoon. It is a very good spot for a north or even a northeast wind. I can't hunt until rifle season starts, as I've already used my first archery buck tag. Should I head in here on November 15th, or do you think the rut will have him out chasing? I'm leaning towards the fact that he won't even use this area during that time, I'm just not sure if, when and how to hunt it. What do you all think?
I have seen some bucks not leave their core areas during the rut, and others have been killed miles away. I say go for it when conditions are right. You won't know unless you do.
Sure looks like a big buck is cruising the area... I would say go for it. Those are some amazing rubs!
I`d have to say those rubs are from a mature doe rubbing her thighs on the tree, if your up in the air about hunting there, I`d be more than happy to take the spot!
