Here it's not very popular. Today I had on a long sleeve real tree/under armour shirt, a camo Hoyt hat, and a pair of camo gloves on and I was putting gas into my ATV and a bunch of little skinny, collar flipped Hollister boys walked up to me looking like a Jersey Shore statue came up to me and said "dude are you racist? home boys dont like you wearing camo in our area".... and I was like "I'll continue to dress like a man, go watch Jersey Shore, play with your barbie dolls or something"... and he said something as he walked away like "stupid redneck" and his "home boys" started laughing and I just drove off wondering where the world is going to be in 20 years with ****** bags like that walking the planet.

So I'm just wondering, in your area, how popular is archery/hunting? How does the future of this sport look while clubs, partying, arrogant anorexic looking guys like this continues to grow".

There are a fair amount of hunters out here. I'd say about 30% of my male friends hunt. We have our fair share of pretty boys, though. I pretty much just ignore them. They are usually early 20's and will find out that life is not all about bars and pink shirts by the time they are 30. Meanwhile Ill continue to do what I enjoy, knowing if it came down to it I could fend for myself, while they would be crying in a corner.

I find it hard to believe that hunting is not popular in West Virginia.

Now I'll address everything wrong with this situation:

    1) No. Men do not wear camo around town. If you are going to the woods, fine, but not around town.
    2) I'm assuming these were high school kids since they were wearing Hollister, because those are the only people I know that wear Hollister. So why would you care what a group of high school kids say?
    3) The world has and will always have ******bags. The world will be fine in 20 years.

But to answer your question, I live in Louisiana, and while I might live in an urban area where hunting isn't the most important thing for everyone, hunting is still plenty popular. Drive out of town 20 miles, and hunting is all anybody thinks about this time of year.

Camo is just another color around here. A rather utilitarian one at that. Not at all relegated to just hunters.

I have no idea what a hollister is but I'm guessing if some twerpy kids mouthed off to one of the old farmers in camo, they'd likely have their anatomy rearranged.

Why? Because you've been here? Do you know anyone else in WV? You'd be very surprised at the population that live here in most parts act. Older folks that rifle hunt, yes. The younger generation? Not so much.

I hope this was a joke.

Maybe. There were quite a few. They were around 18-24. It's not just high school kids anymore. It's mostly college kids ages 20-24 in most cases.

I wasn't asking about the world being fine in 20 years. I was asking about the population of hunting and archery in 20 years. Not a lot of members of the younger generation include the outdoors into their hobbies since cell phones, video games, ipods, and stuff like that has became so popular.

    Awesome.

Edit: I should have been more specific in the first post. I am asking primarily concerning the younger generation with the archery/hunting popularity. Just curious to if there's going to be a future to this sport in a few years.

I live in Southern Louisiana and am a junior in high school... Quite a ways until you get to some good hunting property but surprisingly bowhunting is very popular

I wish I could hunt in a flat state. I have a few friends that hunt in NC and it's nothing but flat fields with tons of deer and bear. Where I'm at the hike in the mountains, all uphill, it takes so long to get from one place to another and it takes a lot of fun out of it.

There's some in my area. A lot that only go out a couple times a year though. Only have a couple buddies as serious as I am about it.

    camo dress

Here in my part of Mo, camo is real common. Even outside hunting season. Lots of interest in bow hunting too.

Used to be stationed in Va, and spent a lot of time hunting in W Va. Lots of interest back then. Hard to believe interest has declined. Too bad.

Not much interest in bowhunting, but plenty of interest in hunting! If you to wear camo around here people might joke around with you a little but it's acceptable.

    Was it Fort Lee?

Different counties probably vary upon popularity. A lot of northern WV is farm country and I'd say it's more popular there. Plus I live in a very highly populated area with a lot of stores, restaurants, malls, etc. My post is concerning primarily ages 10-25 and so forth.

I dont think its the younger generation as a whole. I believe it is the city slicker young people. I am 21 and know lots of hunters my age. I see this when I go to Des Moines. My small town everyone for the most part accepts it.

It is very popular in my area. There is talk about archery becoming a "letter" sport in our high school and other nearby high schools.

I heard that about a school somewhere here in southern WV. Talk about making archery a sport in it. It'd be great. I blame a lot of lack of interest on the outdoors on the video games and crap. The movie grown up kind of scouted it out perfectly. Some people would rather kill zombies on a wii than kill deer in the woods.

I am a junior in HS and I hunt and a bunch of my HS friends hunt too. In WI, just about everyone who lives in the country side hunts or has hunt before and does not mind other hunters. Like soccerdan90 said above, it is more of the city people that don't find much interest in it.

    Yes. And yes.

No joke. A man knows what to wear and when to wear appropriate clothing.

College kids wear Hollister? How sad.

I actually think hunting will become more popular among the urban youth in future generations with the recent push for more organic and natural food. Foraging has already become quite popular among this group.

And it may not be hunting, but outdoor sport participation is at an all time high at the moment.

I think the future looks just fine.
