Based on the wealth of data, its obvious the deer that made that print was a female. She is 2.5 years old, has birthed 3 fawns, walks with a slight limp, slept late that morning and recently took a dump and has a bladder infection at the moment. She is on her way to get a bite to eat and is thinking of the upcoming fall and all the dudes she plans to hook up with. She likes long walks along the field edge and selfies with trail cams. Her turn-offs are small bucks and loud tree stands.
Way to go and scare him off guys.. sheesh. Sent from my SM-G930V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Well, glad this thread got some some quality replies LOL. Ok, I guess I deserve the razzing for a poorly worded question What I meant to ask was if it was "likely" a mature buck track. I know we can't tell for sure, but even though it might be reaching I was wondering as I don't have a cam in that area yet this year. I disagree with those that say you can't tell if a track is from a mature buck or not, or if a track is a doe or buck track. A while back I read the previously mentioned wiredtohunt article on tracks and the author seems to disagree with a lot of the input from this thread. Food for thought I guess. http://wiredtohunt.com/2013/06/04/deer-tracks-taking-a-closer-look/
Big mature bucks "usually" have a splayed toe track with dew claws imprinting behind. I'm going to venture to say an overall length from tip of splayed toe to dew claw of 6 or 7 inches is definitely not a doe or immature buck. If that track was in my region on one of my properties and I had to guess, I would guess it to be a 2 yr old buck. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I think you need something in the picture for scale. Hard to tell the size. It's hard to tell but if you see drag marks from the tracks it is a buck. To me without something to show size I would think it's a doe. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
Since you ate crow so well I'll show you how to take a picture of a mature buck track. You find tracks like this consistently you're onto something.
