How old do you guys think this buck is? I know the pic isn't that great but, any help would be appreciated. Would you take hiim or not. If I get to jim before I get a doe, it would be my first bow harvest. I am on the fence on this one. Would you or not for a first bow buck/deer?
3 1/2 year old and if it was my first buck ever yes but if it is just a first bow kill it depends on how big he really is. It is hard to tell from this picture.
i would say 3.5 years old as well. Good looking deer and i would definitely take him if he gave me a shot. He should have some buddies with him to gauge him against being that they are in bachelor groups right now.
From what a cow dreader that leases some of the pasture area is telling me that hunts also, (not my property) He has at least a 20" spread. He saw him around an hour before dark a few weeks ago. Last season I took a spike by mistake. No contacts, no scope and not enough time to glass him. 100yd and my vision is ok but, not enough to see the spikes. I was actually disapointed I took him after seeing his spikes. Anyways, basically, yes my first buck and first bow harvest is what he would be. I may just take a doe opening day or week then go after him. If nothing else, get my first bow kill out of the way so I am less likely to choke when I do get a chance at him.
I haven't seen or have any pics of him with any other deer. I did get one of a small buck and doe together. I compared pics and this guy is a lot bigger body wise than the other.
Being he's an NC buck It's hard for me tell on his body size. Your deer down there are so much smaller then ours up here. Hell of a rack though from what others have said about NC that live and or hunt there. As far as you asking us If we would shoot him? Who cares what we would do. To be honest If I were you I'd shoot the 1st thing I see for a 1st bow kill. Best of luck.
Shoot what you want to shoot, don't ask for others' opinions on the matter. Looks like a good buck to me.
Hey stick age him after you put one threw him then tell me. If he was in my range he would be dinner. back straps are great to eat horns are great to look at
I have decided the morning of opening day I will be hunting for a doe on the the oposite end of the property which is a good 1/2-5/8 of a mile away from the bucks bed. Then hunt the afternoon and see if I can catch him coming off his bed. If that doesn't work Im going to give it a week or two and watch the wind. I will then try to catch him in the morning coming back into his bed. No matter what I do I will only go after him when the wind is just right. Thanks for the helpl with the age and opinions on taking him.
