I've had my bow for almost 4 years now and every year when I see the new latest and greatest in new bows I get the urge to buy a new rig. How often does everyone move up to a new bow? While target shooting the other night with Ferg I felt like the old man on the block with Fergs Katera and this total stranger shooting with us with a three week old Bowtech Captain? Theres nothing wrong with my rig but just wondering how often everyone updates.
Well you were shooting really well so any upgrade to a new bow for you is just cause you want to. You certainly don't NEED to.
The latest and greatest always catches my eye so that Hoyt Alpha Max 32 has me thinking I should atleast call Mary and see if she has one yet. I get the urge every year but for but I just don't pull the trigger. And you are 100% correct in that it is a want and not a need.
Let me know what Mary says. Maybe once she gets them I will head over with you. I would like to check the new ones out also. And I could use some new arrows. I always have Steve fletch them for me.
Ted and Mary do the fletching and Steve mostly the bow work. Not sure with Steve's legal issues how long he might be there but the most could be 2 years. http://wcca.wicourts.gov/pager.do;jsessionid=926074525A8D323B9A3A5D891EC4CD3D.render1?cacheId=675B8591A3AF707967264EDCDF4D77BB&offset=0&sortColumn=0&sortDirection=DESC Mary is daughter to Ted who is father of Steve and owners of Hysell's Archery in Somers, Wi. They are good people but this past year ive had some setup issues with Steve for the first time in over 20 years. So thats not bad I guess given the time factor.
It's a disease that there's no cure for or maybe an addiction that no 12 step program works on. When you get the fever the bank account has to suffer! Bought my Hoyt Supertec in 2004, I want a new bow bad but you should see how this Supertec shoots.
Between target specific rigs and hunting bows........maybe 6-7 times a year on average? This year alone I've had a Mathews Apex, Apex 7, Dren, Constitution, Guardian, Marquis, and an Allegiance. I'm about to order a Brigadier as well for the upcoming spots season.
I ordered another bowtech equalizer from Blue Ridge Backwoods Archery shop. It's a lateral move, not an upgrade. I just wanted to have a backup bow hunting bow. The old XI demon just wasn't cutting it anymore and I'd hate to have to change one of my Oneidas over from bowfishing to backup huntin' bow. I'll upgrade when somebody makes a better bow.
Raceway- let me know when you want to go check that store out! We can meet up at my cottage and go from there. My place is right by the Chain archery range. Just wait till after the season now!
have had my switchback LD for a few years now and not sure i want to change! but i know what you mean Camo... before that i used to shoot fingers with an old PSE that my dad gave to me. glad i changed then, but thankful for what i had at the time...
I spent some bucks on my Trykon in 2007 (model year old) keeping in mind that I don't want to switch until something HUGE comes out technology wise. The way I look at it, if you own what most would consider a quality bow that was made in the last 5 years (matthews, bowtech, hoyt, browning, pse, etc.) odds are, the "next new thing" isn't going to be that big of a deal. Obviously every now and then something comes along that revolutionizes hunting bows, like split limbs, parallel limbs, etc. I figure I won't be buying a new one until something truly revolutionary happens. They're all fast enough, and quiet enough to kill a deer...They look pretty though! :-)
I agree with zacer. Bows, though pretty, are way to expensive to buy very often. Only when new technology arises.
