My wife thinks we go out to eat too much. And since we are looking to cut back in some areas after buying out new house, she is going after our night's out. We usually go to dinner 3-4x a week, and usually brunch on Sunday morning. I don't think that is too unreasonable. My argument is that we should enjoy this time without kids because when we do have kids, we will be lucky to get a night out once or twice a month. But it's hard to give her crap about buying a new shirt for $50 when she comes back with "We spent $100 on dinner last night, I think I can buy a new shirt." Damn wives.
Kill more stuff and the freezer will be full. No need to go out. $100 a week could get you 2 out of state hunts a year or maybe even 3.
3 times a week is a bunch. Wait until you have kids. After a while, its not a treat anymore. When single, I would eat out 2-3 times a week. When heavily dating, a bit more. Eat out almost every day for lunch. Now, married with kids, maybe 3 times a month. Always pack my lunch. Going out is a treat and you really look forward to it.
Since we have kids.....rarely. We used to go out 2-3 times a week. Honestly, I don't know when the last time Jill and I went out together.
Whats "out to eat"? I grab fast food at usually once a day (Chipoltle, Subway...maybe some bell), but i spend less then $10. I only go "sit down resturants" a few times a month...if that
100.00 bucks a pop between the 2 of you and you do this 3 to 4 times a week? Wow!! Rarely do Jenny and I go out. I'd like to see this change though and take her out for supper once or twice a month. I know she would enjoy It.
Pretty much never, and I don't have kids. We stop at Hardee's or some other fast food joint when we're on the road and when we're with friends we'll go to something slightly more than a fast food joint. That's about it. I can cook better than a restaurant and for way cheaper... so I don't see the point.
I usually go out to eat around 3 times a week, but I spent less than $10 most of the time. I absolutely hate going grocery shopping so usually when I run out of groceries at home I'll eat out a bit more just to put off going shopping. Speaking of which, I've put it off about a week and a half now so I should probably just get it over with and go tonight.
You are correct. Enjoy every last minute of it, BUT... $100 for dinner? Does that come with a happy ending? I'm guessing you could probably find a decent meal a little cheaper than that. Maybe cut down the cost per dinner, but still eat out 3-4x a week?
Since kids, we probably eat out once every 3 months. Before kids, probably once a week. And BTW, if you life post kids is anything like ours, you WON'T get out once of twice a month. One more thing to add. I used to take going out and having a nice sit down dinner for granted. Not anymore. I enjoy it much more now when I get to do it.
Not every dinner is $100. I would say that average is easily $75 though. It's really not that hard to get to $100 for dinner for 2 when you include drinks and tip. App: $10 Entree: $20 per Drinks: $30 That's $80 without tip and taxes already...
ummmm. You guys aren't exactly frugal are you? If you can afford it.... outstanding. That is a pretty special night for my wife and I.
And the cooking at home more idea is something I've thinking about now that we have a large house to properly entertain. But we are about to completely remodel the kitchen, so that will delay any opportunity for me to show off my culinary skills for a while. Afterwords though, once I've got my kitchen how I want it, you can bet I'll be inviting my friends over instead of going to a restaurant.
Before we bought our house we used to go out to eat 3-4 times a week, usually one of those was a $100-ish meal. Now we try to keep it to once a week, sometimes once every two weeks. I will admit, I miss being able to go out whenever we wanted to, pretty much wherever we wanted to. I have a Ruth's Chris weakness that now can only be satisifed once, maybe twice a year.
I'm a tightwad when it comes to eating out. If I had the funds... sure no problem. But when things are tight... If our eating out pushes much over $30 it makes me cringe a little, and I would say this is usually 2-3 times per week... not counting stopping to grab a quick bite here and there.
Your budget far exceeds ours so you can obviously afford to spend much more. So I don't have anything to say about the cost. We do go out in the evening maybe 2-3 times a week, but not always to eat. One huge difference I see is that we don't do anything differently from what we did prior to the girls arriving. We always take them with us and they are VERY well behaved, which makes that possible. We go to the same places, not fast food, and they go with us. We go often to our favorite bar because my husband likes to have a beer or two, (or three) with dinner. So I guess I don't have any suggestions to offer, our lifestyles being fairly different.
