How many hours before sunset do you guys like to get there. With a run and gun set up. (Sticks and hang on). Or and with a set all ready. When would you not go cause you feel there's not enough time. I hunt alot after work. So I find myself asking is it worth.
It all depends. There are way too many variables. The biggest deer I ever shot was a night that I only had 1 hr to get dressed and get in the tree.
I have my stands all up, but I like to be in a minimum of 2 hours before dark and 3 hours is best. With that said, you make do with the time you have and if an hour is all you have, go for it. Maybe think about stand placement and finding the easiest route in and out where you can make the least amount of noise.
I've still hunted to the stand before while running late, and I've gotten in stand 1 hour before shooting light. Killed deer both sits. If I'm committed to hunt I am going to hunt, especially as the rut nears and goes full swing. On the land I hunt the deer normally come through like clockwork, morning and evening during the early and late season. I rarely have seen deer before sunrise, not counting bumping, so getting into stand during the light slow and quiet still pays off. These are prehung though, with a climber or run and gun I would need a few hours Nothing ever goes right and I make all kinds of noise for some reason
