What is the minimal amount of sunlight I can get away with, doing these throw and grow plots deep in the woods? I can't clear many if any trees, only small stuff. Am I wasting my time and money?

It would depend on what you are planting. The bag should give guidelines on how much sun is needed.

I will just say this, "The more sun you give, the more the seed will give." Yet to find a seed blend this doesn't ring true for. It is true though some seeds are more shade tolerant, but all do better with more sun.
