Im too broke to have too much of anything. On a side note, that sentence hoarded the word to (too)...and I hope I used the right ones in the right places lol
Tim, you may have a gold mine there for someone interested in antler art. You could make and sell antler lamps like buckeye did. I don't have a problem with hoarding....... I just bought a second place and spread stuff around both places so it don't look too bad!
On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd be a zero. I hate clutter. I hate saving things for the "what if someday we need it" reason. If it's currently being used or a seasonal item, it is organized and tucked away. If it's been around and not used....... it's gone.
We just got rid of the pile last week. Should have been around 1300 - 1400 sheds. Close to 15 years of looking as we started when Tyler was 6 years old. We kept around 100 of the best and favorite ones. Tyler got a good chunk of change and a big part of my chunk went to my daughter for her upcoming wedding. Oh and I wined and dined the wife with a little bit of it so she was happy. It does seem weird not seeing the pile in the garage anymore. Time to start a new shed pile. Tim
Any ballpark numbers? Thats cool that you kept the best ones. They can never be replaced. How many mouse nests were in there? LOL
Holly cow not sure if Im jealous or not. Only good thing about the fact that I maybe find 1 a year at best, is the fact that I can remember when and where I found each one. I think that would be hard with a pile like that lol. But, on the other hand, if you ever need to make some fast money, take some of them to a dog show. My mom pays around $8-10 for just small pieces of cut up antlers for the dogs. Maybe 8" long or so. You have a jack pot there! If nothing else tell your wife so she has a great retirement plan when you kick the bucket haha
I hoard, therefore I am. If I wasn't married I would more than likely have rusted cars on cinder blocks in my yard.
We got $7 a pound for the non broken/chewed that were fresh when picked. That was the bigger pile. $4/lb for broken/chewed and old but not weathered sheds ( smaller pile ). 3/lb for the ones in the hard side. They got discolored really bad due to being stored in another building that gets a lot of moisture in it and they were laying on the dirt floor. We could have made more by going the Ebay route but I didn't want to mess with that for lack of time and the hassle of shipping small lots. While we have a lot of good quality sheds that are fresh, clean, not broken or chewed... we just lack the size for the big pay. Most sheds were spikes on up to 50 inches. A few were from 50 - 65 inches. Like I said we kept the biggest and our favorite ones. I was happy with the price and the guy was good to deal with. No mouse nests. We have two cats that love to kill things and are very good at it. Tim
