I keep coming back and looking at the picture and I wish I had another picture because now when I look at him he looks less. I'd say 250 is a better guess than my first one. Are you hunting him this season?
I was not sure about this bear because I only have information on a bruiser guessed to be 400lbs. and a sow and cub (cub was described as large as my choc. lab 100lbs.) in the area. So I wanted some guesses on weight because the sow was described as long and skinny so that not her and its no bruiser. That leaves only the cub but sure looks bigger than a 100lbs to me! @kern06 I hope to get my first PA bear this year , this is new property and is looking good! @spear
From what I have heard about judging bears a lot of people over estimate weight. I don't have much experience with it myself but just what I have heard. My thoughts are that if you think you will be proud of your kill then go ahead and take the shot no matter the size (legal animals only of course). With time I would think judging their size would get easier. I will also be looking for my first bear this year (but of the MN variety). My first sit is tomorrow. Would also be my first bow kill. Best of luck to you in PA.
