Obviously he knows the next world record is living in his sanctuary and can't take the chance... Or he's just a tool.
If I shoot any deer doe or buck I'm not gonna just going to take its life and let it go to waste because it went to a "sanctuary area" which is more than likely where it will go if wounded to the place where it feels safest
I do not get the thought process, seems like waste to me I would think that a CO would write a citation for something like that.
A great example of deer returning is Giles Island. Their land gets flooded a lot and drives the deer out. However, they all return. If it's good enough to shoot, it's good enough to track. +1 on Predators! Seems predators would be drawn to the sanctuary and put even a bigger threat on pushing deer out.
I'll say that if I have shot a deer, nonetheless the biggest of my life, there's nothing my dad and I wouldn't do to recover that deer. With that being said I found this paragraph from the article very interesting, "During the midday hours, I walked every trail leading to and from the sanctuary. I found four drops of blood. Despite looking at a time when I figured few hunters would be out, I could hear deer crashing out of the sanctuary, and the shots that rang out as they went." By no means am I agreeing with his decision to not go into the sanctuary, but in my opinion that would of been the PERFECT time to go in and scan it quick!! And his poor kid, didn't get the glory or celebration of taking the buck of a lifetime because of the complete selfishness of his father! If it's a true article, there was a lack of good judgement by someone who just plain should know better...
