My landowner hates deer and we, the hunters are looked at as exterminators. That's our lease. Kill deer or I will find people that will. He refuses to let a single food plot on his property. His crops are the food plots.

Heck, I heard him refer to trees as tall weeds. It's all about tillable acerage and profits for him.

In return, we took 54 deer off his land last year. Mid 40's the 2 previous years. 30's before that. Doesn't seem like we're getting the job done. :what:

    Amen Brother! Cool pics!
I didn't really add in chemical in mine either, I thought about it but I generally have bulk chemical on hand that works fine and I don't keep track of what I use on the plots...guess I should, lol. I don't really care too much if they get a little trashy though, the adversity is good for the soil and the wildlife.

My cool season plots aren't much to show yet here, too dry and they are late but here's one of my larger warm season plots in Milo and Cowpeas and one in pumpkins:

Well I also get a benefit from the plots in another way, some of those acres are field borders so the deer browse on those borders more and leave my cash crop alone more than they normally would. The borders (field edges generally are poorer anyway from brush etc..
I also rotate some of the larger acres in soil health initiative and utilize the plots as a fallow cover crop then rotate a cash crop back on those same acres and move "food plots" to different acres the following year. It's a pretty neat setup but kinda complicated to keep straight, lol.

3-4acres of plots every year.......$400-$600 with out the equipment in there. Everything I buy goes through the local co-op. 20130902_120108_resized.jpg 20130902_120840_resized.jpg

I also go through hunt clubs for beans and corn at great prices.
