If you add up everything, how much do you pay each year to feed the deer?

I would say more like 150 between gas, fertilizer, seed and lime.

I plant 12 acres of foodplots. Winter rye/rape/ptt/pumpkin/bean seed=$750, fuel=$140, equipment maintenance=$400, fertilizer=$600, 40 hours of tractor time=priceless...Total=$1,900 for 12 acres. We sell the rye bales in mid june, and repeat the process on 8/1.

Hint- kick the BoB seed habit @$5/lb and buy at your local feedmill for 50 cents/lb.

No idea. I buy the seed and fertilizer (usually), and my dad pays for the gas in his tractor. On a normal year, a couple $100s if you factor all expenses. I don't plant large plots, either.

Between gas, seed, fertilizer, time spent doing them instead of other stuff I'd hate to imagine......

I'm with Ty on this one... I really don't want to know!!

Just my small plots gotta be around a grand, add minerals, corn, and the occasional bag of pellets I throw in... sheesh
Right now I'm spending about $100 a week just on corn to keep all the feeders full I do this year round but of course prices fluctuate.

I haven't added up cost since I really have know idea? I have been spending money here and there since February on plots. If I had to guess it would be around $750-1000 not including fuel.

    Seed, fertilizer, lime, roundup

I really don't know - I don't keep track but just to make some estimations. I really try and burrow equipment and do it as cheap as I possibly can.

For instance I burrow a friends tractor and tiller, we don't have to pay for anything but the gas and any repairs on the equipment. This year I burrowed a pump to pump water from the creek to my food plots because it was so dry, I also burrowed my company hoses and generator again only paying for gas.

    Plot Saver: $42.00
    Extra Saver Repellent: $25.00
    Milorganite: 4 x $5 = $20.00
2 LED Lights for Scarecrow: $10
    Roundup 2 x $100 = $200.00
    Sprinkler Head: $12
    Gas: $30.00
Seed: $275 for 3 plots and a variety of different plants. Also had a friend give me RR beans from last year that I went ahead an planted this year and it worked out great.

    Rough total = $500 to $600

This is probably higher than most, but I like to try out different seed/plant combos to see A. What works best for my land and B. What the deer and other wildlife on my land enjoy. The benefit of this is I tired out some plants that were not otherwise available locally and the seed/plant combo that I used has been a huge draw to turkey and has pulled turkey to a property that didn't see a lot of traffic from turkey in the past. Did it cost me a little more? Yes, but was a good trade off for me.

    $7500 total
    Seed.......... $2500
    Fertilizer..... $2500
    Fuel............$1000
    Labor/etc.....$1500

80 acres of food plots on nearly 2800 acres. Sounds like a lot but it really doesn't look like it. 23 plots, the largest plot is 15 acres the rest range from 1/4 acre to 12 acres.

Sort of both, I rent a lot of my farm ground and my landlord is "financially secure" and loves to hunt and fish with some of his friends and family. I manage the wildlife and foodplots and his land and mine and another landlords and get permission to hunt all of them and get to expense the foodplots (on their ground) from rent. SO it comes out of my pocket initially but it works out and I get to hunt a lot of impressive property that's cared for like my own in exchange.

The thread about "are dream jobs a myth" was funny because I'd have to say I'm living mine.

I would say somewhere in the 750-1000 dollar range. that includes my egyptian wheat screens too. I figure to plant brassicas and do it right you will be looking at 150 an acre for weed killer, seed, lime, and fertilizer. money well spent if you ask me. Hunting is our families only real recreation activity and the entire family does it! Here is how I justify. What would it cost for the wife and I to go on a guided hunt for 7 days in Illinois? way more that 1000! and this way we get to hunt it for 3 months! and enjoy watching it grow!

here is a pic of my brassica mix with my five year old son he food plots with me, so it is good bonding time for us!
