it has happened to me the last few years. i've said i would stop playing on my phone / texting but i still do!!!! sooner or later its going to cost me a monster
More than I care to know. I'd be sick if I knew I missed out on a buck because I wasn't payin attention. However, some mornings I think it keeps me awake and alert. I also think it keeps me more still sometimes as I'm not moving my arms, legs, and body, just my thumbs.
Where I hunt I don't get any voice or data service but I can text SMS (no attachments pics etc.) so i can't do much. Hopefully I'll be texting some BBD's to my buddies this weekend. Actually I'll be happy if I get the chance to send some SDD's (Small Doe Down) hehehe. -D
Keeps me awake. Think I would doze off and snore like a drunk in that millennium if u wasn't on my phone. Plus helps me forget im scared up that high. Sure it'll cost me one day but hasn't yet lol.
My son and I were hunting when he first got his PSP. He was supposed to look out the window to the right... I had the one straight and to the left. I looked up at one point to see a 6 point walk by from our right, 5 yards in front of our box. Needless to say... with all the trying to put down the PSP and grab his 30/30 the deer hauled boogy. I had passed on that deer several times already, hoping he could get him. Never saw him again from that stand after that.
I'm lucky if I get one bar of Edge service where I hunt. So other than sending the occasional text, I usually stay away from my phone. No desire to fart around with games on the phone.
None that I know of I seriously try to stay off the phone when I'm hunting though. I hunt a few areas of really thick crp and you would be amazed at how many deer you see if you just look real hard. The biggest thing I do is text my buddy when were hunting together, but we are texting each other about what were seeing. Remember your hunting out there, enjoy that aspect of it if you ask me.
I play hooky from work and business a lot during the hunting season, so I have to keep in touch..I figure its a trade off, more time in the woods away from the office...If have to answer an email or text from my stand, I still have a better chance then if I was sitting at my desk.
I try to limit my cell phone activity while I'm in the stand. Once in a while I'll take it out to take a pic or check the weather forecast. I haven't seemed to get busted by any deer yet that I know of
Can't say ive been busted or missed deer due to having my face buried in the phone. But then again, if i never saw the deer... was it actually ever there?
I have thought about taking my kindle with me, but I am nervous that I will miss out or give my position away. Next year, I could see my self getting some good reading done while in the woods.
I'd say I've got a better chance of missin deer by falling in and out of sleep as apposed to cell phone usage
Has not happened to me yet.. hope it never does but I absolutely love having my phone with me, especially on all day sits..passes the time.
I do know of once. My brother text me to let me know he saw one headed my way. I pulled my phone out to check the text and saw them as they were walking by in bow range. Had I been watching where I was instead of getting my phone out to see who text, I would have more than likely had my first bow kill 2 seasons ago.
When i hunt the texting and facebook isnt important! I always leave the phone in the truck, no way im risking game getting away from me when im hunting. So i for one at least know that will never happen to me. Hunting is a great way to get away from things like fb and internet, no? We have to deal with that kinda stuff enough when we work etc. so i say just enjoy the outdoors and take it all in. You can always check billy bobs status on facebook when you get home and send him a pic of your beauty trophy animal. :D
It hasent cost me (texting) but I have had phone in hand texting and looked up and had deer that had come on me. No internet for me on the phone!
