There are times when i sit in a tree stand all day, Then there are time when i want to stalk or look for deer ,
    turkey etc while moving.
I know i lower my odds doing this making noise, scent moving around etc. But i enjoy it alot.

The other night we were on a farm in some real tall grass some as tall as me. I just went in 20 yards from the
trail and mowed down a bunch of shooting lanes towards the trail. Granted i was on my knee's and ass for a few hours, but i thought it was fun. Like i said may not be the most effective .
What are your thoughts or success stories.

Just dont want to be wasting my time either,
Like the tall grass field we were in. there were a ton of bedding spots along the trail in the tall grass. There was no trees you could ever get a stand in. And i dont know what other options i would have. Suggestions????

I stalk/hunt my way to and from my stand... it paid off once.
If you'd like, you can come stalk the area of my public land stand, around mid-day, while I'm on an all day sit :tu:

I have a few spots where I cannot get a tree stand. One is a hay field with what used to be cow pasture behind it. It is so overgrown that it is impossible for me to walk through but the deer use it so much to get to the field that the trail is a 4"-deep rut. The only tree on the field edge, or anywhere I can get a shot off for that matter, is a large dogwood with branches that over hang that can conceal me well so I plan on sitting there.

Another spot is on top of a ridge where there is a large rock formation. Because the ridge is very steep, I would be eye level with the deer if I were to climb up in a tree. So I stay in the rocks on the ground and am perfectly concealed.

I have tried it i personally think its too hard and im not on the level of stalking as some people on this site so i got to keep practicing but i say man if your enjoying your self while doing it then have at it i always say its not always about winning if you not having fun doing it might as well quit

I do it quite often. I get a huge thrill out of it. I do sit in stands but sometimes I like to slowly walk on a fields edge by the trees and get within range of feeding deer!

I stalk my way back to my car, but that's about it. Would've paid off last week too, had I been able to pull the damn trigger... damn baby deer.

Some of my biggest thrills bow hunting have been from a slow walk. Like the time I spotted a shooter buck in his bed as I stalked closer I got busted by a doe I never saw. She jumped up at about 10 yards and while I was trying to recover from the heart attack the buck bolted as well

I have drawn 3 times from the ground. One kill at five yards (total rush), one miss at 15 yrds (way to excited), and passed a shot on a small buck about 15 yrds. Never will hunting out of a stand be as exciting as ground hunting for me ... but I still hunt my stands most of the time.
