I have rifle hunted before. I don't anymore. Could in the future. OHbowhntr, there's always atlatl and traditional .
100% bow. At 12 years old I tried gun hunting for deer, that lasted 2 hours. Not my type of tea I guess.
I'm teetering on the edge of not ever using a rifle to kill a deer again. If I have a buck tag, I usually carry a rifle the first day and on the Saturday's in PA's 2 day gun season. The rest of the time I carry my bow. This year I will carry my bow as my buck tag is punched. Unless it's with a pistol, I don't plan on shooting a doe with a rifle again. If they banned rifle hunting, I'd be completely fine with that. As for bear, I love that PA now has a week long archery only season, but when that's over, I'm happy to get the boomstick out and run with my mob of buddies on that following Saturday. ***Speaking of*** Rob are you in this year?
I was brought up rifle hunting in the great state of ND......I have only recently started bow hunting and have yet to get an arrow bloody...my time will come......
Now that I have bow hunted I really don't care to hunt with a rifle. I enjoy the peacefulness that is involved in it. I am sure that many will agree that rifle season brings out all the idiots. I got tired of hunting property that nobody else has permission and having to chase people off all the time. I hunt to escape and relax not get mad and discouraged by other people. I still own a rifle and may hunt with it. But not anytime in the near future.
I've never hunted whitetail with a rifle, and I don't plan on it. Having the disadvantage of hunting with a bow makes it that much more fun and challenging. I might want to try muzzleloader one day, but for right now I'm bow only. Now, archery bear season in PA starts on monday, and then its rifle after that. If I don't get a bear with a bow, then rifle it is. Ducks, goose, pheasant and dove, thats a shotgun of course. Shotgun is my other love besides bow.
I am running with it !!! :p Bows hunting would be banned long before rifle hunting. Rifle/shotgun hunting is much more important for any state to manage the deer population. It gets the job done !! If you think bowhunting could get it done... you are only fooling yourself. Not saying you think this... but if you or anybody else does. Becareful for what you wish for !!! Sometimes it helps to look at the big picture and not " the world should revolve around me ". Again not saying you do but if someone does. I wish our rifle season wasn't during rut but there are a lot of rifle hunters here that are glad it is. My state thinks it is important for the rifle hunters and accomplishing thier kill goals to manage the deer. I do both but not real serious about rifle hunting. If I wasn't worried about get shot since I bow hunt on the ground and hiding isn't really smart when the ground I hunt is over run with rifle hunters... I would only bow hunt. Rifle season is nuts here with a alot of nuts carrying rifles. Tim
