I hope everyone does! I didnt untill a guy somewhere in the county I hunt fell out and compound fractured both legs! That gave me enough motive to use one and now I dont feel safe without one.
I'd hate for my daughter to grow up without me there to see it. I'd also hate to be a quadrapligic and have my wife wipe my ass whenever I **** on myself. I wear my harness!
You got that right brother! Its not me I'm worried about, I work with heights up to 90 feet crawling around on I-Beams with nothing but air under me, its the unexpected and stand/equiptment failure I'm worried about, you HAVE to respect it, no questions asked! Wear your full body harness!
I haven't and don't plan on it either! :D I did talk to a guy the other day, he fell twice in one year due to equipment failure, said he just started wearing a harness the year before and the HSS saved his life!!
Full body here too. First year switching from the cheapo ones that come with the stands to the Muddy. Got a wife and kids that expect me to make it out of the woods. I started doing this too this year. Except I climb attached to the tree and not the climber on the way up and down.
I have for the last few years. Went from using nothing to simple safety belt(which is practically as bad as nothing) to Loggy Harness.
Full Harness every time. Attached from ground to height, and from height back to ground. I use a safety belt when hanging hang on stands and a lifeline with a prussic after the hang ons are set, for ascending/descending. One thing people often overlook is the fact that a lot of folks are not physically fit enough to recover from a fall. If you are attached so low on the tree that you will be hanging below, or at eye level, to your foot platform, are you fit enough to pull yourself back into your stand? How many chin-ups can you do after a shocking fall? Get the strap/rope that your harness is attached to at just enough length for you to sit down and be comfortable. A standing shot will lend you the slack you may need, and at the same time allow you to not fall past your seat.Things to consider guys.
HSS Vest for me. It's so simple to put on and really covenient for all of it's pockets. Why not wear one? Doesn't make sense. Anybody ever consider the FallGuy Retractors? I may be purchasing one of those in the near future for one stand that I really HATE climbing in to.
I'm too smart (too old) to think I'm invincible anymore. I started with nothing, then a single strap. Now, nothing but a full harness (HSS) for me. Seen too many bad things happen to too many good people.
