I suppose you don' t wear seat belts either....or a helmet on a bike. Not busting your stones NY but safety has to be 100% or it doesn't exist. Lots of things could happen to put someone on the ground out of a stand. I had a couple of mad coons that I didn't know were above me come out of a hemlock I was in one day. They wanted down and had to get past me. I went out on a limb as far as I could stretch the safety lanyard and they scampered past growling all the way. In that moment of panic I could have slipped or jumped without thinking. How about getting blown out of the stand. Ever hunt when the wind came up and the tree starts to rock and roll? People faint or fall asleep all the time and find themselves at the wrong end of the tree pretty quickly. I am sure you are in great shape and are very careful and experienced. Stuff happens and safety equipment is there just for that unexpected accident. Watching that Summit safety DVD convinced me to use everything I can get my hands on to be safe. The definition of an accident is an unplanned event. It can happen to anyone. Another thing...been hunting for 20 years without an accident. You are due statistically. Why chance it. One fall and you're whole golf game could be watching the playoffs on TV sitting in your hoverround.
The thing about it NY is you can have a 100% success rate for 20 years and that is great. If it slips to 99.98% you may retire permantly at the high success rate or be dead
Well said, too this day still have never heard someone say , "Oh yeah, I planned on falling and breaking my neck or back."
