How many f you do your own work around the house like renovations and things like that? I am asking because I have been renovation my condo in Florida with my parents and brother and I wanted to know who else does it them selves. Its normal to do all the work yourself in my culture but when ever I tell my other friends they always ask me "why don't you hire a contractor?"

I'll do the most of it, but two things I would as soon pay for are....painting and drywall work. :bash:

Agreed!! I hate, hate painting, staining & mudding. I'll hang drywall though. Luckily, most of the interior work around here is log or tongue & groove.

I try and do everything I can around the resort here. Sometimes I even get to play with heavy machinery :tu:

With the work I was doing, I was excited and happy to start dry wall and painting lol. After this reno I refuse to ever use wall paper or have to take it down.

I do some stuff. In the foreclosure we bought I painted, did put up some new trim and just rebuilt the deck stairs a few days ago.

I built two rooms for the kids and roofed in my front porch. Put a metal roof on my house. Built a walk in closet. I think i'm going to put vinyl siding on this summer. May change out some windows while i'm at it, depending on how much money I spend on hunting stuff.

"I" do most of our renovations. And my "I", I mean my Dad, who owned his own contractor business for 35 years.

    I help.

I tackle most inside jobs. Bathroom remodels, dry wall, painting (I don't mind painting at all), flooring as long as its easy to install stuff. I don't deal with exteriors too much and the worst thing that I will not ever touch again is door replacement.

If I can't do it, it probably isn't going to get done :)

    Exceptions are finishing drywall.

Have never learned to do any type of handyman work - Never really had a house to learn or do things with my dad either, we always lived in a trailer that didn't need many repairs.

Guess I will learn throughout life though!

I do some/most of the handy work. But I'll pay someone to drywall the inside of the house and mudd it.
I also plan on paying someone to paint the house in 2 years, mostly cause im afraid of heights and lazy. same with the shingles in 3 years. wayyyyyy to steep for this fat boy! Wish ****ie Tunes lived closer!!!
