I don't understand the bold part. As for the wind, I have 8 stands. How many do you see here? You always seem to forget that I hunt more than one property. I will try to explain the rest after I get to work.

personally, I have not killed a mature deer over a food source, but just last year my younger brother shot a 185" 4.5 year old out of a standing bean field and my dad shot a 164" 8 point 6.5 year old out of another within the same week.

How many people on this site kill big bucks?

How many have you continually called out/doubted?

My point was, why even call him out for a map in the first place when he clearly states he hunts funnels and does?

I don't want to ruin a good thread, so I'll leave it there.

To the OP, I rarely if ever actually hunt destination food sources. This year was really my first true attempt really, and I had a mature buck at 30 yards just inside the woodline from a bean field, foliage prevented a shot. Hunting september can really help your odds with that type scenario though.

    Look at the map.............

The yellow stand worked with a W to SW and NE wind.

The white stand worked with a S to W wind.

The green stand worked with a S to WSW wind.

    Yellow stand......... 143" 12 point..... 11/4

    White stand...........140" 10 point...11/10, 133" 8 point...12/3 and a 126" 9 point...12/25.

    Green stand...........170+" 10 point...10/31 and 163" 12 point....11/15.

I was hoping to see a big buck.

I still don't know what your point was.

I suspect that Trevor is onto something. I have killed 12 other mature bucks in other hunting spots. 2 different states and 7 different counties. It took years for me to put together the tactics I use today. They didn't all come from just this one spot.

Some day I hope you will realize that I do in fact "speak chinese" . ;)

Up until late season, when the doe groups band up, I only concerned myself with the ones in my immediate area. The one to the E accross the road and the far N ones I didn't concern myself too much with as I had no control over them. I was mainly concerned with the ones I was hunting closest to.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I did hunt the place prior to the rut but mainly used the N most stand. I called it the tall stand as it was 28' off the ground. I couls see EVERYWHERE. It was my main observation stand and it allowed me to find the doe and buck bedding locations on that end of the property. I only hunted it once a week for the first two weeks of the season the gradually hunted it more often after that.

I was guessing that it was about 15 acres. I'll be the first to admit, that once I hunted that spot, I was going to ride it out to the end. That is exactly what I did! ;)

Although I have 2 other Ill hunting spots, I chose not to hunt them this year as I am actively pursuing the purchase of my own hunting land in Wis. My life long goal has always been to have and manage my own land.

Jeff I don't know about Greg, but I pretty much execpt I am going to spook some deer on my way to my stand. I used the wind to minimize that as much as possible. North is almost straight up.

S, SW, SSW, W wind I take the boat and hunt the North side of the farm. 100% chance I am not going to have ANY deer smell me on my farm;) Now the farms behind me are another story.

North wind I hunt the south side, but I walk out, I know I may tip some deer off on the south side bedding area. i walk out in fall gear, mask over face and all.

East winds I hunt the front of the farm, again this leaves entire farm scent free of me. I Really try hard to keep my scent out of my hunting areas, and the deer in front of me. I never worry about the deer behind me. If they smell me the smell me. My attentions are to hunt the deer in front of me. Trying to cover it all 360 will drive one nuts, I know;)
