Okay, everyone (all you guys and gals lurking out there too!!!) here's a contest for you all. Tomorrow (Saturday) the Illinois Bowfishers are holding a bowfishing tournament on Rend Lake in Southern Illinois. It's a numbers tournament which means that the team with the most fish at the 'weigh-in' wins. All legal bowfishing species except shad will be counted. Now, for those of you who don't bowfish, this is usually a good time of year for a big numbers tournament. However, wind, rain, and cold can really hurt the number of fish taken. (can't see the fish if the water is muddy or choppy and the fish won't be in the shallows if it's cold) ...so yesterday was windy. Today is cold, rainy and windy and tomorrow will be cold and windy.. Not the best news for the tournament. So here is where you come in: Guess the number of fish it will take to win first place in this tournament. It's a 12 hour tournament. 7pm to 7am. In the past, the lowest number it has taken to win is 42. The highest number was 541. Put in your guess. Closest to the actual number will win a Bowhunting.com hat. (or perhaps some other goodie that I can wrangle from Justin)
25 teams signed up. A bunch of teams were scared off by the weather. Can't blame them. Its been cold and windy. I'm half frozen and I've been inside this toyota all night. Numbers are going to be way low. Several teams quit by 3 am. Just too cold for the fish to be up.
I was one of those scared of by the weather. We were out Friday night and saw very few fish. I think we managed to hit 8 by 1:00. It was very windy after the storm and got pretty cold too. It didn't sound like fun being out all night in the cold and wind with no fish to be found on a new lake. See ya at Carlyle in a couple weeks.
