I know! Well honestly, the first one was up at RJ's (Matt's) and it was early and he needed 10" more on his head. The second was a glorious Rob buck, a 4 on his right around his ear and his left was a little Y. It would have lit up the forums and I honestly thought I'd see him again. I was on a a quest for Mr 140+. But I still ask myself why, particularly the Rob buck. :D
I have had lots of different bucks come thru my set ups this season but only one I took my bow off the hook for. I missed judged the yardage and shot under him.
The 2.5's that I passed were probably in the 100" range. Most of the bucks I passed were much smaller than that though... I also passed one mature buck that would have went 130-135, but one of his main beams was all busted up so he got a pass...
Ive passed up 9 buck that i know will score atleast 115 and two of them were in the 130 to 145 range forsure. With that being said im trying very hard for one of two deer this year that are on my hit list so im not gonna shoot anything else.
I have had a ton of bucks with in range. 1 was a 3 1/2 yr old at 15 yrds. I have his shed from last year and hundreds of pics of him. He will score in the 140 range. Can not wait to see what he blows into next year. I have had more 3 1/2 yr olds in range this year than ever before. You cant shoot 4 1/2 yr olds though if you shoot the younger ones!!
I believe I have passed 7-8 that have been within range. And within range I mean 20 yards or less and broadside/quartering away. I passed 2-3 bucks of that 7-8 that were 2.5 year olds. I couldn't tell on a 5 point wether he was 2.5 or 1.5 All others were 1.5. I am finding myself passing more bucks as I get older. I even passed a 2.5 year old buck this year that was around 80-90 inches. I would have never done that in years past. In fact, he is the second best buck I have seen on my primary hunting grounds this year.
I have seen 30 different bucks this season. Mine I shot was #25, the other 5 was while hunting with my son (I was looking for yotes :D) Out of those different bucks, BUT counting the ones I seen twice, Ill guess probably passed on around 18 shots.
I passed 0 bucks in PA this year. The first one I saw in range was a shooter so he got it. After that I was tagged out so I can't consider it "passing" even though I would have passed on those deer. In MD, I passed on 1 100"ish 2.5 year old. That has been the only buck I've had in range there.
a few small ones, and since i shot one a few more. only seen one real wall-hanger and that was thru a bunch of brush!
