A friend of mine from another hunting forum were texting back In forth last night discussing big bucks between 2 different states. He asked me If I knew anyone that's ever saw a 200 Inch buck? I said I knew of one person. The person I speak of killed a 217 Inch NT back In 1983 a 1/2 mile or so In back of my house on the river bottom. At the time It became the Minnesota archery NT state record for a good 15 years. Besides that guy, he's the only person I know that's seen one. My question Is- How many of you have saw a 200 Incher? How many people do you know also who have? If so what state?
How many people think that they have seen a 200" whitetail or how many have actually seen one? There's going to be a lot more of the former. I was with my wife in 2006 in Ontario when she missed a giant. Someone killed it 2 weeks later and it taped out at 204". That same year I was hunting in Saskatchewan and I saw a giant. My guess is he was pushing 220". He was in fact definitely over 200". At least that was my perception.
I've never seen one on the hoof that I know of, but my taxi usually gets a couple in every year from IL. The closest I've come is 186 incher the neighbor killed the day after I saw him on the property I was hunting.
I am not 100% sure that I have but I have seen 2 that I believe would push it and were probably over. Both crazy non-typical in western KS on a wildlife refuge. I am not a good scorer and these being non typical I didn't have the first clue on how to begin. Every time they moved their heads you saw more points. They came off the beams in all direction and it was actually hard to tell what was main beam and what was tines. I saw more big deer (150+) in 1 day than I will probably ever see hunting the areas I hunt in the rest of my life.
About 10+ years ago we had a 200+ inch typical running around the property we hunt. I had 2 encounters with it. The first time I jumped it, along with a 150 inch 8 pointer, on my way back to the car after a morning of hunting. They both got up about 10 yards from me. The second time it trotted past my stand at 5 yards but wouldn't stop for a shot. It was hit by a car the next week. I had another encounter with that same 150 inch 8 pointer where it came crashing out of a thicket and almost ran me over. That buck was shot by the neighboring hunter while it was mounting a doe. What a way to go out!
I saw one 200 incher in Wis. and know 2 guys (father and son) that not only seen one, they each killed one. Both in Ill.
No, closest is probably 180"+/-. I know one guy that shot a funky non typical that was right at 200" a few years ago, no one that I bowhunt with claims to have seen a 200" deer.
I saw this one (the mount) at the county fairgrounds. I don't know the guy but this was taken from my county. http://somd.com/news/headlines/2006/4924.shtml
I've never personally seen a 200 inch deer in the wild, while hunting. I'm sure I know quite a few people who have, but I'm not close friends with many. I know Dan pretty well and he says he's seen a few of them, so there you go.
Nope, not here. The biggest deer I've seen in PA was a buck that taped out at 178" green. I had an encounter with him in archery season that year. Never saw him again until a guy on property a half mile from ours killed him during rifle season. I got to at least lay my hands on him. Most of the time, 200" deer are NT and here in PA, we simply don't get a lot of that NT stuff. I was however driving home on I-80 through Ohio and saw a buck standing along the road in a field that would go 400" or better at the time. Of course looking back, he mighta been a tad smaller than that...
Not myself, an aunt shot a 200" non-typical in the early 2000's. Saw one that I think would go 180-190, but they look a lot bigger in the headlights.
Swampthing what part of WI are you from? I hunt in an area where a giant was hit by a car just down the road from where I hunt a few years back.
I have seen one. A friend of mine and co-worker at the time ended up shooting it. The buck netted 201 3/8" non-typical. I believe it's the biggest buck ever taken out of his county (Lincoln) in Wisconsin.
