I upgraded from the standard safety harness that came with my Summit climber to a HSS this year. I also got 2 lifelines to go with the 2 hang on stands that I got. The directions say to leave it out no longer than 2 weeks at a time. For someone who hunts mostly on the weekends, and then maybe a solid week during the rut, this doesn't seem like it's so useful. For those of you who use the lifeline, do you take it down after 2 weeks or so and give it time to rest inside or something, out of the weather? Or do you leave it out all year? Thanks!
I leave mine out all season. Just inspect them really well every couple months and replace if you find any signs of wear.
Then how do you leave it in the tree for a year? Mine attaches and goes with me,I never leave anything in the woods anymore.
Can you use a life line with a climber? Like say you have trees already picked out to hunt it seems easier to to it that way then climb up and move the strap up the tree does anybody here do that?
This is what I thought too. But after reading the card that comes in the package I was slightly nervous to do this. I was wondering if I even wanted to keep them. But, it seems pretty common with everyone, and I feel a little better about it now. Thanks! Also, someone said they replace every 3 years. Any reason for replacing after three, rather than the recommended two years? Just curious.
I also have a climber, but for that I bought the HSS rope-style treestrap. I like it way better than what came with my climber harness, and the idea behind it is similar to the lifeline (same knot and hookup), but it goes up and down the tree with you. I haven't tried it with my climber yet, but I did use it along with the lineman belt when I hung a stand a few days ago, and I liked how much easier it was to maneuver on the tree.
The company is just covering their a$$es liability wise so they don't get sued. Taking it down every two weeks doesn't make sense. I have had mine for one full season, outside beginning of September through early January when I get to taking them down, and they are strong and look fine so far. I'll evaluate them after another season, even during the season while being used, and see how they are. I imagine they'll be good for several years but that depends on a lot of factors such as climate and time outside.
We are talking about this product. http://www.huntersafetysystem.com/lifeline/ Maybe you're thinking of just a climbing lineman's belt or probably the HSS rope-style treestrap?
