I have some venison still in the freezer from last season. I was wondering how long everyone keeps theirs. I heard a huge array from nine months up to a year and half. thanks guys

Last week end I finaly got around to grinding a couple of quartered deer that had been in my chest freezer since Oct, and Nov. I cooked some burgers on the grill last night, they were great. As long as the temp is right in the freezer all the air was out of the wrap they should last at least a year. I cant get deer to last that long with my family and freinds though.

A few years back, we ate some out of the freezer that was 10 years old. Probably wasn't the smartest idea, but it was fine. tasted pretty good actually. It was ground into sausage, so that helped, Im sure.

I would think at least a couple seasons as long as it was freezer wrapped good.

We have kept it 2 years befor with no problems. We wrap in in Glad cling wrap first and then cover it with Freezer paper.

That's exactly what I do, we have some venison in the bottom of the freezer that's 3 years old, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to eat it.

Depends entirely on how it's wrapped and stored. I've got an industrial grade vacuum sealer that does such a good job that I've had stuff stored for 2 years without any ill effect. It gets eaten faster than it can go bad so I've never seen the limit of how long it could go.

I'm very glad to here the general census. I took two deer last season and my family has yet to warm up to wild game since a poorly butchered hog. I guess the only good thing about this season was I never added any more venison to the freezer :(

well you guys will probably laugh, but i have done all my own butchering all my life since i was ten, i save all my bread bags from the year and sheets of newspaper and when i shot 4 to 6 deer a year with turkeys in the spring and fall, thats alot of meat to clean and wrap. so cheap and free is the way for us....we just fiinished up all meat from 2008 and startn 2009...never lost any meat to freezer burn or any other problem....i put all meat in double bread bags and two sheets of newspaper and maskn tape it up and label it..put in big freezer in garage. it works for us never thought about a time limit????
