It was at least 4 or 5 years. Didn't have near as much information back then like we do now. It fueled my fire for bowhunting! I started with all small deer. Had to work my up (or earn my way up) the ladder. Small does, button bucks, bigger does, spike, 4 point and so on. It really kept me going and wanting more. Loved every second of it! My mom used to say "your never going to kill anything with a bow" that helped fuel my fire as well. Haha! I love bowhunting!

Started bow hunting in 2008 missed a few good bucks 8 pointers. 2011 shot a 10 pointer on a rainy afternoon when I almost didn't go hunting pouring. First deer I ever harvested I was pumped

this is like a "show your age" thread :)

had to be about 1975, begged my dad all summer to buy me a compound for my first season @ 12 yrs old, he still used a 45# bear recurve that i leaned to shoot with.
we settled on a Bear Polar LTD from a local shop, a doz. fiberglass arrows (which i still have a few of), and Bear razor heads.
took me all season as i was hunting bucks only, in december late season it was anything goes, on my 13th birthday pops was putting drives on for me and i nailed one @ 50 yrds. first shot, first kill !
turned out to be a buck that had already lost it horns, due to a badly infected rifle shot thru the front leg ?
he was so proud of me as he talked me thru the gutting process !
the next year he got me my first Baker climber, i can still hear the deer scattering as it clanked around to get it set up :)

Took me 18 hours into my first season to get my first deer, preparation makes more good success. And awesome story above me!! It's crazy how technology advances and changes
