Yeah it was pretty awesome. Hiked into the field behind my house, was 100 yards from my stand when a nice 3.5 year doe popped out of the thicket and I hammered her at 22 yards

Yeah I was ecstatic. Every one of my seasons after I have gotten deer on minimal sits.

It took me 5 years to get my first with a bow. I shot a doe at first light two years ago on the first day of the season. I was quite a happy hunter. This year will be my 7th year archery hunting, and I'm still looking for my first buck.

I was lucky enough to shoot a 5 pointer with a bow my Dad let me use the first morning I bow hunted almost 30 years ago...it didn't go like that last year though!

Started bow hunting in 1993 harvested my first doe in 1997! Harvested my first buck in 2004! My problem was I liked to shoot the first deer I saw so until I stopped that I didn't see many bucks!

I liked shooting my full recurve bow when I was young & could easily hit what I was aiming at.
When I started hunting I was going with a few buddies they were using shotguns so I used a shotgun, then muzzle loader season came I bought a muzzle loader. In my mind the bow was just for fun, not a serious hunting weapon.
Christmas 2010 I got a PSE Stinger from the family it was in a box not setup so I put it in the closet & didn't think about it until the start of deer season 2012. I got it out of the box & just stuck it together I didn't know what I was doing. I took it to the range & couldn't hit anything I just kinda played with it like I did when I was young but there was no way I was going to hunt with it.
One of my buddies ask if was going hunt bow season I had to tell him no because I couldn't hit S#!T with my bow, he suggested I take my bow into the shop to see what they could do with it. I took it to the shop & the guy took the bow back apart then put it together right this time. He showed me how to use the sight & set me up with a peep sight, then dialed the bow into the way I shoot. Then had me shoot on his indoor range where I got good enough to put every shot in a 3" circle @ 30 yds.
I hunted 2012 late but didn't get a chance to go to full draw on anything.
The summer of 2013 I made time to get out & do a little practice, the more I practiced the easier it got.
I found the confidence I had when I was young, for the first time I felt I was ready to hunt with it. I didn't see anything worth taking the first day of bow season but had a few small deer playing just out of bow range. The second day I had a few deer come through before sunrise, then just after sun up I had two does come into the woods playing I took the larger of the two.

It was shot a little high & I got a spine shot, she went down right-a-way so no tracking but she started pulling herself out to the edge road where I put her down with another shot.
I got a good shot a 10 point buck late last season but it ran out into a swamp & I couldn't track it.
Now I prefer using a bow to deer hunt.
