I shot a young Buck last night. seemed to be a good hit, but ended up tracking anyway. I followed the blood trail for nearly half a mile and my batteries were dying and I was going to have no light. it was late and I marked the last blood spot and returned home. I plan to continue the track at 1st light. I am sure I will find this buck, but it will be hours between shooting him, and recovery. how long before the meat spoils.
Some variables when it comes to answering that question. I would venture that if you find him by late morning you'll be fine. Jerk the guts and wash him out good. You will know after that if he's spoiled.
I will agree with river bottom! You may lose the tenderloins but the rest should be fine if found by mid day. You said you tracked a long ways so the deer didn't die right away. Any updates on how your search went?
