I have been trying to scrap up enough cash to purchase a tree stand. My vehicle has costed me a lot of money these past couple weeks. I has caused me to push back the purchase of my tree stand. I am starting to get a little nervous about how late it is and whether it will not give the deer enough time to get use to it prior the season opener in october. One final things as well, I was going to put a card board cut out in my stand in the shape of a person is it worth it or not.

I have hung stands during mid-day and had successful hunts that evening. Never too late to hang a stand and hunt it. If you are able to pack it in and then hunt it, go for it. I have also had success doing that.

As far as the cardboard cut-out. Not something I would ever consider doing. I'll just leave it at that.

You could also brush in your stand to hide it better. Just do it during the midday. It would also help if you pick a day that it is suppose to rain that night. That way all your scent is washed away. Good luck.

deer change their habbits and locations when the weather/food changes in the fall.
basically it's never too late to hang a stand but it can be too early.
the cardboard thing sounds weird, not something i'd waste my time with.

I agree with all this. Just plan your hang time, like you would hunt it. Pay attention to the wind and try not to leave scent in the area. The cardboard cut out will do more damage than the stand hanging.

you will be alright hanging the day off, just don't do too much walking around, it's better to hang it where you can see around you and where there is first sign, then you can always move it later if you see deer mvoing else where.

I agree. However, I guess I don't understand why a person would place a card-board cutout. Regardless and sorry to say, but I'm shooting straight with you I think it would be a asinine thing to do.

I just hung one like 5 days ago, and I think that stand is my best bet on shooting a good buck

from my past experiences i have always been able to check an area out for sign and then hang a set that day or the following and usually always see deer from it. as for the cardboard cut out there is no need to do such a thing. scout out your spot buy your stand and sneek in there hang it and shoot your self a deer. however the cardboard thing i have in fact seen done but only by deer hunters in wisconsin they set up the dummy on the fence line and dress him in orange to keep the neighbors from tresspassing. i have heard it seemed to work really well.
