I'm just curious how high you guys go.

I like to get in the 15' range.....I think it is plenty high and lets me see more of the kill zone on a deer then if I'm up about 25-30"

    What are your thoughts ?

    THanks,

    SB

I have been six feet and I have been over 20 feet. Depends on terrain and the trees. I believe that concealment is better than height.

I like to be about 18'-20' up, but like madhunter, it all depends on the area.

Depends on the tree, location, etc..

I like to be at least 15 up. Usually I'm about 18-19 ft up.

I have a 20 ft bow rope. I like to climb until the rope is tight. Sometimes I'm limited by the tree, a branch or I goofed up when I set the cable on the climber.

Usually I'm 18-20 with the climber, & 15' with ladder stand. I too belive in concealment, some back drop and small shooting lanes. I've read that anything above about 16' is out of their sight & noses. granted the higher you go, the smaller the killing plane.

I'm a 20 footer... that's about my ideal height. I shot my buck last year at 6' off the ground...

I agree with what a coupl of others said about cover. I usually hang around 16-18', but I'll hang it wherever the best cover is.

I usually hunt 20 to 30 feet up unless Im hunting marshes where I may only go as high as 8 feet.I think being that high up carries your sent over the top of everything and a deer would have to strain his neck to look up at you.

I'm usually around 16-18' but will go around 12 if the situation is right. Like madhunter said, concealment is a higher priority for me.

15-16 feet. I like to be at these heights because I believe it helps with keeping my scent away from the deer's noses.

I think you should just go up as high as your are comfortable and at the hight you feel is best for each situation!!!

I like the 12-15 foot range. Going higher than that kinda scares me:cry:

I have one stand that is 9' off the ground.

I like to be 20-25', any higher and the shot placement can be rough. I do have a few stands lower but they are concealed well.

I'm kinda fond of 20 to 22'. I mean the height I shoot from or head height, not platform height. One thing that determines how high I go is what my background is, sky, foilage or what. I don't like to be skylined, a deer can pick you out so much better if there is much sky behind you. BTW, I got busted last year by a very large buck just before sunrise. He was at about 50yds. coming down a trail. It was still dark enough I could only see his brow tines very well and then a very vague outline of his spread. I saw them (he had a smaller buddy with him) first and was perfectly still when he glanced up and saw me. I was 20' up but he was on a little higher ground than me. He did have the sun at his back but it was a good while to sunrise, still might have been the deal breaker though. I didn't think I was skylined in this case but may have been now that I think on it, it was in December. He just calmly turned around and retraced his steps. In a few seconds his buddy which was working his way toward me, noticed he was gone. He freaked and turned around to go find his mentor. I was in my 3 year old scentlok Realtree coveralls with headcover, gloves, the works. I removed this stand and put a different one on the opposite side of the tree with more cover. We'll see how it works in a few days. lp

Climber - I prefer 30' I have my bow pull rope cut to 30' so I just climb until I feel the tug. Works well in the dark
    Lock on - 6x 4' sticks so 22-24'

Now if I am in thick stuff I adjust my height to accomodate shooting lanes. I also try to make sure I have good back cover.
