18 -20 FEET UP, i have also have been up as far as 22-25 feet at times
but i try to stay around 18 - 20 feet, i have a bow rope that is 20 feet when i can feel the rope become tight i stop and adjust.

I climb between 1500 and 2200' every day I hunt deer, ironically it's just about the same for goats...

I think Schultzy says it best but most of the time it's when my 25' rope stretches tight.

I always measure in the summer once I set my stands. It is better to measure and know your height before the season starts. At least, that is my opinion.
