Usually I sit either in a 10-12 foot ladder or climb up about 15 feet in a climber but this year I might have to put up some hang on stands in some spots and might have to go 30-40 feet up and just didn't know if that was to much of an angle and will throw my shot off drastically or not. So what are yalls opinions?

It depends entirely on the tree, terrain, and cover.

I've hunted as low as 5' and as high as 35'.

On a side note, I'd guess that most people who claim heights higher than 30 are not accurate in their estimation.

IMO, there is no reason for someone to be climbing 30-40' up a tree.

15-25' is plenty high for my area... But it does depend on the tree.

I'd say 80% of my stands are in the 18-25' range.

15-18ft is a general target height for me.

Depends on the terrain for me. I use climbers only, for the ease of mobility, I move around the woods a lot depending on the time of the season and deer activity. I never let the critters get a chance to pattern me, climbers give me this mobility. Where I hunt pressure it extreme and deer are always on high alert. Also because of that I feel I do have to go higher than normal for some areas or you just just can't hardly make a move without getting busted. I have hunted up in Wisconsin and Kentucky and taken some nice deer and used stands as little as 12 feet to the shooting rail and got by with it, deer seemed more at ease, but where I hunt on home turf you can't do that.

As a reference though for my average height I have a 30 ft. tow rope and I tie on my bow and shimmy up a tree and when my rope reaches its end that is generally my stop point but like I said sometimes more sometimes less depends on the spot.

Many variables such as terrain, vegetation, available climbing trees. Usually 20 to 25 feet but have been much lower and somewhat higher. Use a 30 foot rope to hoist the bow up so I can usually get a pretty close guess as to how high I am.

12' to 20'. Anything lower is risky and anything higher is insane.

Where the cover is, like to be in the 20' range.

I've sat 7' off the ground in a fencerow to stay in the cover without getting busted (shot a 160" 12pt) and I've sat in a 32-35' in IN that scared the crap out of me but also shot several good deer out of that stand. Majority of my stands are 20-22' in OH but it also depends on the farm and pressure of the deer. A lot of deer around here are so educated bc of the amount of pressure that they walk around looking up, sometimes higher is better but it kills the size of your vital zone in close.

17 to about 25 if I had to guess, but I just pick the height based on concealment and obstructions etc.

I mostly use a climber and climb around 20'. I have my pull up rope cut at 22' and it is attached to my handclimber. So when I start lifting my bow I stop (as long as I have good cover, otherwise I may go higher or lower). That puts the base around ~20' usually.
