That us not a supportive quote if you are RR...usually when someone starts talking like that you have 2 feet out the door. I say they do it Monday, or 1st thing Tuesday morning. He has already made his decision, he just needs a day or two to see if his choices are readily available.
RR's coaching resume is rock solid. He has improved by two wins a year since opening at 3-9 in 2008. He finally is seeing some of "his" recruits starting to play in his system. I say the Michigan AD would be a fool to fire him and needs to give him one more year.
I hear what you're saying, and it makes sense, but RR won't make it out of this week as their head coach. It appears anyone connected to MI wants him gone.
Brett, you sound like some of my employees. Set the bar really low, so it always looks like you're improving. I think the only way Rod is gone is if a certain coach on the west coast wants to come here. I don't think those talks will get serious (or at least made public) until after Stanford plays Monday night. If Harbaugh doesn't want to come to Michigan, I think Rod gets another year. "Insiders" are saying Harbaugh will not return to Stanford next year, they just aren't sure if it will be Michigan or the NFL that he leaves for.
Thanks Matt. There have been many great coaches that have struggled early in their tenure, only for someone to recognize their talent and continue supporting them..... RR is not some second class slouch coach. He has proven abilities and I think coaching consistency at UM would prove to be the wise, non-knee jerk reaction that would be most beneficial.
Good coach or not, some places are just a bad fit. His hire was a knee jerk reaction when they couldn't get their first choices.
Exactly! Happens all the time when a top tier program misses on their target for a hire. They may get a good coach but it's not the best fit and definitely wasn't who they wanted there....in most cases the coach is gone after a few seasons...
It sounds great to say, "give the coach another year to prove himself, he's finally got his recruits, the players are buying in etc. etc." But this is 2011, coaches like Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Gene Chizik, Jimbo Fisher and Harbaugh among others have shown that you can turn a program around in as little as two years. Even if you aren't winning conference or national championships, new coaches should at least be making an impact on recruiting at new schools by their second year, and Rich Rod hasn't done that. I think the firing is justified.
Coah K comes to mind.... BTW...are we talking EST....Mtn. Time or other? I don't think the day's that big of a question.
Whether we like it or not, a coach's job security isn't what it used to be. Coaches at universities with a winning tradition have very little time to make something happen. You won't have much time to rebuild in football programs like Michigan. Money talks, and boosters/alumni have a lot of money.
Not sure if Harbaugh is going to Michigan, but after last night I believe he is going somewhere. He refused to even shiff at the questuions. Most of the time guys will say I am the coach here...etc...last night he gave a speech about the integrity of this game and respecting the players. I respect him for that, at least he is not lying, he is just dodging the reporters trying to get their dirt. Playing the game so to speak.
He would be a fool to go to Michigan. The program is a mess. Looks like Michigan will lose their best player if they fire Rod to. Denard claims he may transfer if Rod gets let go.
RR may be fired in the next 24, it's a mess for sure. Just wait until NCAA gets done with TaT 5, LOL TP car loaners are being investigated next, he will never see OSU field again. Good think you have that stud QB coming in!!!
