Another thread got me thinking, and was a bit surprised at some of the responses. I'm curious to see more from other members.

Simply put, how far do you walk to most of the stands that you hunt? What kind of terrain, do you walk up/down hill consistently? Anyone hiking up mountains or significant elevation changes?

It depends on where I'm hunting. Some spots have a lot of hills and I may only park 2-300 yards away. There are times that I may walk 4-500 yds to the stand. I'm lazy but do try to use a little sense.

400 yards would be a good average for me. Very flat terrain here.

When hunting around the city, I walk about 150-200 yards to the stand. When hunting mule deer, we probably walk around a mile each way, depending on where we set up. It's in a big valley down by the river in a area with very few roads. Also the deer are very skittish there so the less noise me make going in the better.

Almost every stand I hunt out of is an up the mountain hike, 1/2 mile is about the closest walk, I can think of while a 1.5 mile set is my longest walk in. I use logging roads, skid roads, elk trails and ridgelines to get to my stands.

    For me...

...it varies. But i have plenty of stands that are .25 mile or more. In fact, I have a couple that are nearly a half mile. Then I took the biggest buck from 80 yds from the cabin.

I struggle with this every year because for me the only way to the stand is to go up the bottom of the valley and I feel as though the deer can see me. Because of that I never use a flashlight in the dark. I would go around the top but not all the other land owners will let me.

The one buck I was hunting earlier was 1 - 1 1/2 mile walk just to hunt him. That's just to get in the spots. Figured I had around 40 miles of walking just to finally get a shot and miss him. :(

The two does I shot were 400 yards from the truck within 50 yards of each other. The night I passed the old 4 pt was a mere 100 yard walk.

More times then not... I walk 1/2 to 1 mile. I've done 2 mile walks before. What ever it takes. I ain't afraid to walk.

Our land is rolly land with not real tall hills.

I don't believe I have ever walked more than 350-400 yards to a treestand.

On average, usually between 150-200 yards

It varies a lot for me. Everywhere from 200 yards to a mile or more.

I average 1/4 mile from where I park the ATV. I then walk the rest of the way. It could be up hill or down depending on the stand I hunt that day. A couple involve creek crossings.

When I hunt state management lands I'm usually a mile + into the woods with a pretty good bit of hills. The couple of pieces of private land I hunt is usually only 200-300 yards and pretty flat.

My closest stands are about 200 yards from the road. Depending upon farm lane conditions sometimes I have to walk about a mile to get to other stand locations.

As short as 50 yards level ground to as long as 3/4 mile up and down steep hills. The worst part is the first 200 yards are up "ASS KICKER HILL" and you are sweating no matter how much clothes you carry.

I hunt about 1/2 mile from where you can park. Mostly flat walking, but one big hill to deal with, it's not bad. You HAVE to go a little further back in than most want to walk when you're hunting public land. I see ZERO hunters.

As short as 75yds up behind the Lodge. As far as a 1.5 mile paddle in the canoe and a 600-800 yd walk after that. Is mostly thick woods with 20-30ft ridges.
