Went out this past weekend and found 13 singles....not one pair. For 3 of the singles I searched a 200 yard circle around them and then went over it 3 or 4 times to make sure I didnt miss the other side, which was definitely not in that area. I've been told by many that they find the other side usually within 20 yards, with 100 being the most. Maybe I'm just that bad at finding them, but I don't think It's possible I missed the otherside with how many times I rechecked that 200 yard radius. So, how far apart do you all find your sets?

Steven - Lots of posts in the shed forums about this topic you should read. They could be miles away or they could be still wearing the match you never know. Congrats on a good haul though 13 is a good day! I would give those spots a few weeks and then hit them again. Good luck and show us some pics!

It all depends what the deer is doing this time of year in that area. Food can be limited in winter months so deer can be moving a long ways between bedding and food if they have a decent food source somewhere. I find singles all the time due to deer moving so much. This is the case for blacktail not sure about whitetail.

I have never found a match set closer than 100 yards. If I find a match set they have always been between 100 and 500 yards apart.

I've never found a matched set, so my best guess is they're roughly 4-6 miles apart. Possibly even in the next county over. :tu:

I found my big set last year 3 feet apart, but that doesn't happen every day. Usually if you can't find the other side within 200 yards, most likely you won't unless you have a huge track of land...

    13 singles...very nice!
I have found 3 sets this year. Two of them were within 30yds and the other was 4-500yds apart.
I think there is no answer as to when/where they lose them. I have seen deer still carrying as of last week and i found a nice 8pt clear back in December.

This year (in Iowa at least) with deep snow my best luck has been to find food source, find bedding and look hard everywhere in between.
It does drive you crazy when you find a good one and cant find other side!!

    Good luck.

I picked up 4 sets this weekend. One set was laying on top of each other. Two sets were 5 feet apart, and the third was about a quarter mile apart. I have heard of them being found as far as a couple of miles apart.

Here are some of my ATL photos of some sets. I also have found sets 100 yards or so apart. These are my favorites:

yup, you can find them laying together to miles apart. I was just talking to my buddy Jay in Iowa whom he has trail cams of a buck packing his second side for almost 20 days before it finally dropped, I have never heard of this long before but imagine the ground that buck could have covered in 20 days between dropping sides..

The three matched sets I got for this year, one set was about 200 yards apart, the other probably closer to about 400 yards, the last one was about 10 feet apart

There is nothing given on when and where they will drop, just put in the time and hopefully you will find the other side.

I'm fairly new at this game, but had a little luck last week end. The matched set were about 20 feet apart in the grass right along a corn field edge. Funny part is they were both within 10 yards of my favorite stand. The larger one was found at the bottom of a pond damn withing 75 yards of the same stand. I couldn't find the match to that one.

That Rack in the back is just a size comparison for depth. It is from the buck in that last picture.
