Its obvious that deer need water but are they worth hunting over? I ask because I recently started hunting an area of thick brush adjacent to a large corn field. 200 yards off of this field is a decent sized waterhole and there is a mowed trail that runs through the thicket and leads to the waterhole. I have a stand on the trail that connects both, however I've thought about putting a blind on the water itself.

How many of you have shot deer over water? When is the best time in terms of season and time of day?

I don't think that I would be to concerned about sitting on the water hole . The cut trail sounds good because it is a path of least resistance that deer will use but a water hole will normally only be hit when there is an extreme drought. Deer can usually find enough water on their forage , in the way of a heavy dew , to sustain them .

I have two 110 gallon rubber tanks dug into the ground along trails and deer use them on a regular basis, they are great for hunting the rut when bucks are running hard. Scoot
