I know what you mean Pat. Fishing used to be a big hobby of mine, but now that I own a fishing camp, I don't have that strong desire to go like I used to. This is why I only guided deer hunters for one year.....I didn't want it to become a job.
Interesting answers... I love hunting. I love everything about the outdoors...but, Motocross/Supercross is my number 1 hobby..Next to breathing I got out of racing when I joined the Corps..I had a few injuries, surgeries and so on- very indicative of the sport....Recently, I got back into racing and I cant believe how much I've missed it... Since I dove head first into motocross, again, I havn't hunted, barely scouted and just plain forget about it, at times. Dont get me wrong, I miss it and I often wish I was sitting 30' up in a tree.... However, not having my homework(intense scouting/glassing/planting, etc, etc)done for the season- I refrain from any random trips into the woods cuz I'll be frustrated due to lack of confidence.(I only hunt when I'm confident I'll see a good buck, call it a sickness) Also, I dont have a bow anymore.. I'm also into: long range rifle shooting martial arts*** bmx mountain biking****(like the hardcore kind, not strolling down some trails) being an older brother supporting our Veterans**********************
In the spring, turkey hunting is definitely #1. Followed by trail running, kayaking, mountain biking, backpacking, and fishing. In the fall/winter, college football, trail running, and deer hunting are all about a tie. I try to do all during the weekend, but sometimes one takes up more time than the other.
Hunting is one of the many activities I pursue in an attempt to support my preferred lifestyle. I enjoy it a great deal, just as I enjoy the other activities a great deal but, it is not a hobby.
I love my hunting, but honestly, I think I kind of enjoy prepping the land and stuff with my uncle more than the actual hunt... the prep work right now is mostly for my kids, so i can bring them on some good spots... that is more gratifying than any harvest would ever be for me... it really doesn't interfere with my other hobbies at all... snowmobiling doesn't heat up until after the season, guitar and brewing stuff is at home year round... in reality, hunting probably interferes with my other hobbies more than they interfere with hunting... this time of year I just don't have much else goin on until I start coachin football again next year with my boys... then hunting takes a back seat until the season is over
Bowhunting is it for me really. i turkey hunt in the spring, bowfish the summer, bowhunt the fall, and predator call the winter. IF I had to choose only one it'd be turkey hunting though. My new found hobby is heading west or north on DIY hunts. The satisfaction and adrenaline from such a hunt really is amazing. I have AZ in Jan, hopefully a bear hunt this spring, and California next August. I love the backcountry type hunts, and see myself doing a LOT more of this as time moves on. Deer hunting here is fun, but it doesn't hold a candle to those trips. I'd give up a month of deer hunting here for a week of spot and stalk hunting out west. It's plain and simple more fun, IMO. I also fish occasionally when there isn't really anything else to do. I watch football on tv and am a college bball fanatic, but don't really consider those hobbies. House is the only tv show I follow.
Bow hunting is new to me, so we'll see how passionate I become, but so far, am loving it! I really enjoy the outdoors - camping, hiking, boating, snowmobiling, and ice fishing. And I guess one could consider me a bit of gym rat
Deer hunting (bow or gun) is my main hobby. Shed hunting is 2nd favorite, with turkey hunting a close 3rd. My guilty pleasure is spud gunning, although I am currently w/o a gun. I'm planning to build a serious spud chucker this winter. :D
I got more hobbies than I got time. Hunting is right up there at #1, but I also enjoy: a little roadracing (05 ZX-10R), I've got a Polaris RZR that we take riding, I play basketball every Monday, workout everyday at lunch and run after work, I get picked up in the occasional softball game/league. Anything that keeps me active I'm all about it.
Street bike (GSX-R 1000 and 600) gone, softball league...gone, basketball league...gone. I guess hunting and running/gym are about all that is left, and they come after my wife and little girl. All you firemen, respect. I have always wanted to be a fireman, and actually considered not signing my scholorship to join out of highschool. I have a real good friend who had us in. He is now the youngest captain in Atlanta and I have a good job, but yearn for the job again. I am currently trying to get on around here, but without going to EMS school and all the Atlanta guys getting laid off I am basically pissing in the wind.
I can see it now. In 5 years Jeff' spends his time posting 267 times/day discussing his new hobby........ bungee jumping.
Hunting is becoming my number one.... Then shooting firearms/reloading. My HD was stolen last year and I won't replace it until I figure out where I can keep it away from thieves (no garage.. took it outside my house.. 2007 Sportster with 2500 miles.. Sigh)
Bowhunting is probably number 1. Followed by fishing, then other general hunting, then shooting/reloading, then running, & hiking/camping.
As far as hobbies go... Hunting and Archery August through March...Golf the rest of the time..Family is always #1
